Many thanks to the Chicago Growth Project for hosting our first petition drive over the weekend at the Logan Square Farmers Market! Thanks to our volunteers, we collected over 100 signatures from 35th Ward residents to help get me on the ballot for Feburary's election.

I immigrated from Colombia when I was just seven years old. My father became a small business owner in Chicago and my mother continued her career as a nurse at the Cook County Tuberculosis Clinic. Let my family be proof that immigrants strengthen our communities and are cherished residents.

Living in Logan Square means my kids are mere blocks away from delicious Colombian food like obleas, empanadas, and pollo asado. But, with the rising cost of living, it’s becoming harder for local Colombian establishments to stay in the neighborhood.

Chicago should be a city where working families can afford to stay, put down roots, and build a future. That means building more housing, updating outdated zoning rules, ending aldermanic prerogative, and taking a housing-first approach to homelessness.

Chicago has plenty of courtyards, but have you ever seen one with townhouses? I stumbled upon this particular layout while out canvassing in Logan Square and was floored. Residential courtyard developments help solve our housing crisis, and provide a sense of community. Let's build more.

Chicagoans and families deserve to be able to afford to stay in the city. This can only happen if we hold our leaders accountable to delivering actual results - leaders that will say "yes" to more housing and "no" to more barriers.
