This is a classic libertarian point, and it misses that you only have freedom to fail if failure doesn’t mean your destruction. It’s the same reason most startups are started by younger people who often have money or access. If it fails, it’s not the end for them. Socialism is freedom to fail.

So back in the late 80s/early 90s, RE/Search publications were an instrumental part of my figuring out what kind of weirdo I was. In particular their republication of Octave Mirbeau’s “The Torture Garden”, and JG Ballard’s “The Atrocity Exhibition” had a huge impact on young me.
