Cities should be paying people to bike. Cities should be buying people e-bikes. Cities should be rewarding people for convincing neighbors to ride bikes. Every trip by bike is a net financial gain socially. And it compounds, the more people who do it.

one thing that is worth remember apropos this useful piece is that novel technologies do not necessarily require novel political solutions. americans have had to deal with fast-moving, disruptive technological change in the past, and they did so through collective, democratic action.

I am really curious about how this went down. This is a very large scale pseudo-guerilla marketing tactic and would have taken a lot of work to plan and execute. And it's so dumb. Everyone hates it. Surely someone in the room said, hey, are we sure about this?

I do wonder if it's time for a constitutional convention. Canada was formed as an agrarian economy, with a constitution designed as such. The Charter updated that, but didn't really do much about improving representation.

First, while the writer emphatically plans to vote, there's a hint in this article that voting feels pointless at the municipal level, because the province can basically veto anything a council decides. But municipal councils are very often proving grounds for people seeking higher office.
