If even 1 person had active TB disease, Amazon should immediately close the warehouse, test everyone who works there, & treat & compensate all workers w/disease & w/infection.

Wait, what? Victorian conditions indeed! Writers of that article & this one www.bbc.com/news/article... need to read your book & @johngreensbluesky.bsky.social’s book. Articles try to distinguish TB infection from disease, they repeated conflate them & the respective risks they pose.

separating from their communities when they are no longer infectious is unnecessary, especially w/new, highly effective regimens. That they often have to pay for their own food & medical supplies while hospitalized is cruel!

@stephanienolen.bsky.social thanks for highlighting the source of this disruptive practice: $ that is not fairly distributed. Servicing of usurious external debt costs nearly 50% of Cameroon’s GDP, and precludes adequate spending on health. @pih.org works to change this status quo.

Thx to @lancetrespirmed.bsky.social and Ed. Ari Colosio for the rapid publication of endTB-Q & podcast. Resistant forms of TB are only more likely w/US abdication of its role in global health. Trial results remind us of the dangers of one-size-fits-all approaches in TB & all infectious diseases.

Research conducted exclusively in US does not inherently better match priorities. Significant research infrastructure exists outside US, & overlap between conditions (e.g., chronic disease & HIV) is important, conducting research in places w/higher disease burdens brings results to US faster.

Another example of “cut-first, evaluate-after” destruction fomented by 47. It will lead to more deaths now & later, waste taxpayer funds spent on lifesaving research, and delay future progress. Like health care, health research stopped (& restarted) on a whim has serious consequences. 1/1
