Our maps predicted the steppes of Kazakhstan as hotspots of fungal biodiversity. No samples had been collected to identify which mycorrhizal fungi exist there. @bethanfmanley.bsky.social and @thecrobe.bsky.social went to ground truth the prediction and New Humanist wrote about it: buff.ly/oIg3dDo

SPUN has just released its Underground Atlas, which maps the richness and endemism of mycorrhizal fungi. This incredible tool will aid in defining conservation priorities by incorporating mycorrhizal fungi into the process. I couldn't be prouder to work with the amazing team who put this together!

A sad example of what we risk losing when policy doesn't put nature first. It's not just cute animals that are at risk, but the fungi that underpin the ecosystems the cute animals live on. We should also not forget humans are part of nature and when we lose species we risk ourselves as well.

South Australia is drafting new biodiversity laws. It looks good, but alarmingly fungi are listed as plants. Also, under this Act landholders would be able to remove and fungus or algae from their land unless it is a prescribed species. 🌏 #conservation #fungi Have your say here:
