I refuse to let that stupid list give me a nervous breakdown, but it is ridiculous & disqualifying that Orange Is The New Black is not on it (along with a bunch of other brilliant shows, including Crazy Ex-Girlfriend)

Are any of you watching Furious on Hulu? Some of the best acting and writing I've seen in a crime series in the last couple of years. Eight episodes (I've seen seven); genuinely suspenseful and surprising; totally worth your time. Quincy Tyler Bernstine in particular is just killing it.

Edited beautifully by my better half, this film will in fact make you cry - in the most delightful way. Lynskey is her usual glorious self, and Sandler is a revelation. I have seen this film maybe half a dozen times now and love it more each time! Check it out on Netflix on Friday.

What I loved about seeing The Frames, especially pre-Once, is how clear it was that they knew they were rock stars, even if no one else did, yet. Not in the sense of acting like jerks, but in clearly believing that this music in this room on this night might actually save your life.

RIP
Sam Neill on why 'The Piano' (1993) is an important movie in cinema history:

"I don't think I can overestimate how important 'The Paino' is for me in hindsight. it sits on my funny old CV like a medal on my chest. It wasn't my film. It Jane Campion's. I wasn't the star of the film. That was Holly Hunter. But there is honour to be found in the second fiddle. Or fopurth. No one notices you much, you don't get nominated for things. But you served. I was there in an important feminist film. I was there on the front line in an important New Zealand film. Neither of those labels does the film justice. It's a work of art. And look, that tiny little figure in the fabric—see down there on the right—that's me. It's a film that will always have a place in cinema history. And I served in it."

Be sure to use Al when making your next, I don't know, meal plan, for example. Definitely do not call your friend who loves to cook and ask her for her favorite recipes or tips or ways to save time making meals, because you will end
up talking for longer than you had hoped, hearing, perhaps, about her father's cancer diagnosis or how lonely she's been or even what she's planted in her spring garden and then lost with the early frost.

One thing you see in both the smug dope from the Plain Dealer and the Cruise/Pitt clip is profound resentment at the idea that creative work is a skill with human variables--experience, instinct, practice, imagination. There is real anger at the very idea that non-technological human talent matters.
