There are a lot of future CPS parents, teachers and community leaders (heck probably a great future board president) who are out there right now just living their lives as teenage girls and that part is very relevant to how people and organizations are acting right now.

What I need right now from anyone talking to me about values, justice, and what's good for kids is that you shouldn't put your hands on a teenage girl* *Not a specific rule but an important subset of the rule that you don't put your hands on someone who doesn't want you to touch them

(Obligatory caveat that Mohandas Gandhi was not exactly great at eliminating patriarchy. He was quite committed to ending untouchability but stopped short of working toward caste abolition.)

On this, Mohandas Gandhi's birthday, may we all remember that caste supremacy and patriarchy cannot save us from white supremacy. The only way out is solidarity.

Susan Sontag's 9/16/01 piece in The New Yorker got her crucified but it's one of the few things from that era that aged well. "'Our country is strong,' we are told again and again. I for one don’t find this entirely consoling. Who doubts that America is strong? But that’s not all America has to be."
The disconnect between last Tuesday’s monstrous dose of reality and the self-righteous drivel and outright deceptions being peddled by public figures and TV commentators is startling, depressing. The voices licensed to follow the event seem to have joined together in a campaign to infantilize the public. Where is the acknowledgment that this was not a “cowardly” attack on “civilization” or “liberty” or “humanity” or “the free world” but an attack on the world’s self-proclaimed superpower, undertaken as a consequence of specific American alliances and actions? How many citizens are aware of the ongoing American bombing of Iraq? And if the word “cowardly” is to be used, it might be more aptly applied to those who kill from beyond the range of retaliation, high in the sky, than to those willing to die themselves in order to kill others. In the matter of courage (a morally neutral virtue): whatever may be said of the perpetrators of Tuesday’s slaughter, they were not cowards. Our leaders are bent on convincing us that everything is O.K. America is not afraid. Our spirit is unbroken, although this was a day that will live in infamy and America is now at war. But everything is not O.K. And this was not Pearl Harbor. We have a robotic President who assures us that America still stands tall. A wide spectrum of public figures, in and out of office, who are strongly opposed to the policies being pursued abroad by this Administration apparently feel free to say nothing more than that they stand united behind President Bush. A lot of thinking needs to be done, and perhaps is being done in Washington and elsewhere, about the ineptitude of American intelligence and counter-intelligence, about options available to American foreign policy, particularly in the Middle East, and about what constitutes a smart program of military defense. But the public is not being asked to bear much of the burden of reality. The unanimously applauded, self-congratulatory bromides of a Soviet Party Congress seemed contemptible. The unanimity of the sanctimonious, reality-concealing rhetoric spouted by American officials and media commentators in recent days seems, well, unworthy of a mature democracy.

Those in public office have let us know that they consider their task to be a manipulative one: confidence-building and grief management. Politics, the politics of a democracy—which entails disagreement, which promotes candor—has been replaced by psychotherapy. Let’s by all means grieve together. But let’s not be stupid together. A few shreds of historical awareness might help us understand what has just happened, and what may continue to happen. “Our country is strong,” we are told again and again. I for one don’t find this entirely consoling. Who doubts that America is strong? But that’s not all America has to be.

There's a racism and anti labor problem too - when the staff (which included queer and trans Christians of color) of The Reformation Project tried to turn the organization into a cooperative in 2019, he threw a hissy fit and fired everyone.

Consistent and principled refusal to vote for people credibly accused of rape is worth doing even if it means we lose some elections. Handing power to rapists will always be worse for our movement in the long run. Excusing sexual violence is never strategic in our struggle for liberation.

70% of it is bought from this solar farm that the city invested in in Sangamon County. The power grid isn't segregated so it's as close to true as possible without literally having solar panels plugged into all their outlets. Hopefully we can get to 100% soon www.motherjones.com/environment/...

To achieve its goals, the city helped finance the largest solar farm east of the Mississippi.

People keep acting like the fascists care about "crime." THEY DO NOT. They care about domination & fear. They will fearmonger re: "crimes" committed by out groups while cheering on the "crimes" committed by "their people" Meanwhile liberals keep bleating on about hypocrisy when hierarchy matters.

I don't disagree with you I don't think? I just have seen too many version of the take that "assimilationism is when a gay person is a normie" rather than "assimilationism is when gay people carve off pieces of themselves or deny less privileged queer people solidarity in order to be respectable"

I think we need to focus on the harm. Fitting in isn't the problem - throwing queer and trans people under the bus in order to maintain the temporary illusion of privilege is the problem.

CassieWas FRIGHT (they/them) @cassiewasright.bsky.social · 23/06/2026
I disagree, it's a meaningful critique when cis gays like Barney Frank push the Democratic Party to throw trans people under the bus. It's a meaningful critique when LGBTQ people join the US military or the police. It's a meaningful critique when individual gays choose self-promotion over solidarity
