The thing about effective altruism is that our philosophy club grilled Peter Singer about it over a decade ago and he had no answers for the obvious issues it has that are painfully felt today. It's not like they didn't know it was bad, it's that they didn't want to see it.

The Tickle v Giggle saga has finally reached its inevitable conclusion. The Australian High Court has refused to hear the case, so the Appeals Court ruling stands. Sall Grover has officially lost and owes Roxy Tickle A$20,000 in damages plus another A$100,000 in recoverable legal costs.

QCAT has now found that it was a "substantial miscarriage of justice" not to require a trans woman complainant to provide details of how she breastfed her child. This decision is sufficiently against the available body of evidence that I find the implications extremely worrying

I get it. I sometimes sit here thinking about what we could have done different too but the truth is; absolutely nothing would've changed no matter what. It sounds like a very hopeless and defeatist view but it's actually kind of liberating in its own way. it means we can focus inwards instead.

I've mentioned elsewhere that these hamfisted attempts to claim that science is innocent are either fraudulent or naive, but I think inverting this - if science is going to find truth in the world it *has to be* non-violent. Innocent not as in "curiosity" but as a practiced culture of non-violence.
