Your ‘App’ Could Have Been a Webpage (so I fixed it for you…)
I was asked to install a mobile app to get access to the itinerary of a trip to Disneyland I'm taking with the kids. Fuck that noise: couldn't it have just been a Web page? An hour of reverse-engineer...

A month ago I started exclusively viewing instagram through the web. This inadvertently massively cut down my screen time. Sometimes terrible web performance is a good thing!

PORTLAND FOLKS! IMPORTANT This is an excellent introduction to an excellent service. In comparison to Buy Nothing or Freecycle (and you live here in Portland), this is the structurally better option. As you use ATProto, the system that supports Bluesky, you already have an account with Gifthood.

How is no one talking about Vite HMR mode blocking cross-doc view transitions? Are people silently working around this by generating builds to test their view transition animations? The DX for this is no good!

The Safari team's reason for opposing Web MCP struck a cord with me. It is something I've struggled to articulate in the past. In fact, their comments contain the seed of a design principle that the W3C should adopt. cloudfour.com/thinks/impro...

p75 and p90 JavaScript bytes on the web have exploded since May, 2025—easily the largest 10 month period based on HTTP Archive data since 2023. The long-tail is getting worse, very quickly. Gemini, what happened in May 2025?

Many developers misinterpret what the DevTools performance test results tell them. My video below explains how Chrome implements network throttling and how it impacts your data. Neither the bandwidth nor the latency implementation match what you'd see on a real slow network. youtu.be/93HI4dnGjMk

ICYM this post by @cheddybop.bsky.social, it has never been clearer that the legacy frameworks (React, Angular, etc.) will never turn the corner on mobile perf; and mobile is most of the web. The only winning move is to decamp to something *actually* modern: lorenstew.art/blog/10-kanban-b…

There is hate for JS on the server. But none have accomplished what @markojs.com has. Forget Islands, forget serialization boundaries, forget writing code twice. Just declarative templates, low JS, automatically. @dpiercey.me joins me Friday to show how it's done. www.youtube.com/live/x-3RxGf...

I think a lot about how the principles of design and UX are fundamentally incompatible with capitalism; at a certain point, they have opposing priorities. That means if you're in the field, your company is paying you to care about something it will never care about. And that's a recipe for burnout.
