I do the exact same thing. I’m buy my friends’ books and preorders because they’re my friends. Any other book I vet it through the library first, fall in love with the story and author, and then buy.

One of the most irritating things about the AI boosters doing commencement speeches was how all of them were telling the college grads it was up to them to come up with AI uses, while also telling them it can do anything and everything imaginable

My 8th grade teacher used reverse psychology on me and I defiantly read Gone with the Wind at 12yrs old to prove that I could. I was so proud of myself, and it gave me the confidence to read more challenging books

The predator taking off his armor and tossing a mud covered Dutch around felt way more homoerotic in my opinion.

Also I got to see the Predator handshake in its original form. That was exciting. I didn’t know they were arm wrestling. I think the only reason it get labeled as homoerotic is the smiling and prolonged eye contact.

I watched Predator (1987) for the first time (I’m thinking about using it as a comp to pitch a short scifi I’m writing - Predator x high school prom), and it holds up really well. There’s also a lot more explosions than I anticipated. Like the budget was 80% explosions.

Guilty as charged. I listened to Bad Blood on audiobook and it was fantastic. Interviews with Holmes explaining how the medical tester worked (which they didn’t) are still on YouTube. I want to see this documentary.

Some of the sentences are a bit of a struggle and take a second or third reading but I’m enjoying the challenge

I like how much dialogue is in the book. I was braced to wade through pages of descriptions of the pastoral setting, my brain stops processing if there’s too much description, but the story unfolds so well and the descriptions not overly done.

I prefer Pride & Prejudice, but I wrote a short about two sisters battling supernatural horrors that’s been rejected twice by publishers and one of the problems is the characters are under developed. So I’m reading S&S bc my sisters have a similar dynamic.
