An old man used to wear the same hat everyday. All the kids used to make fun of him and say why don't you take that hat off. We know you don't have hair anyway who cares about it.
One day the old man smiled and said you want me to take off my hat I will. So he took off the hat and revealed his beautiful shiny brown hair. He also stood up straight and took off his glasses.
He said look at that. I am actually young and the CEO of the biggest business in town. When you are looking for jobs I will be really old for real, and I will say I remember the boys of town treating old men so lowly. The boys of town couldn't even share one job, for one dollar a year!

The way the history of pop was warped by boomer criticism/historiography into a hard dividing line between a supposed glop past and Elvis-and-everything-after with a rock focus was a massive reductive mistake that is still playing out.
