23 degrees and sunny today, this is not what October in the UK is supposed to be like. T-shirt weather.

Apologies for the vagueposting, but I just want to say. Politics = interesting Discussion of how political parties should position themselves to best appeal to certain voters = not interesting

There needs to be a Bluesky account that gives you quick explainers of current discourse so you can immediately decide whether to engage or ignore and not have to trawl through pages of vagueposting adjacent to the story you haven't seen.

Catherine Zeta-Jones looks at least a decade younger than her 57 years, but unfortunately she does not look like Catherine Zeta-Jones any more.

Of course we don't, but we also do not know what is going to be valued later, and right now even culture from a decade ago is being lost.

Don't know if anyone out there has seen all 31 Elvis feature films (this does not even count concert films, etc.) but if you have then (a) why? and (b) am I right that Jailhouse Rock is the best one?

Neutrino: special, outstanding, decent #totp
Neutrino from Oxide & Neutrino, he has Chinese character tattoos which read something like "special, outstanding, decent" - could have been a lot worse tbh.

One day I will write my book on Arthur Collins, the best-selling recording artist before 1920 and arguably the man who made the first jazz record, but essentially forgotten as early as the 1930s. Goes without saying that he's deeply problematic, of course.

Podcasting subreddits are hilarious, you always see someone saying "I want to start a podcast but I can't think of a topic" - I have maybe 30 concepts ready to go and time to do exactly none of them. Maybe I could start a consultancy.

The idea of replacing interactions with people with interactions with AI only makes sense if you hate interacting with people, in which case you wouldn't want AI to be humanlike. The only conclusion I can draw is that the people pushing this don't want us to talk to each-other.

Very gingerly dipping a toe into the stagnant pond of The Discourse I think it’s obviously fine to not hear popular songs but my reaction to learning “a song I don’t know has broken loads of popularity records“ is “oh I should hear it, maybe I’ll like it”, why would it not be that?

It has taken me until just now to get that the current Pop Music Discourse is about Choosin' Texas by Ella Langley, which has been at #1 in the USA for ages this year. All I can say is Rein Me In was #1 in the UK for 23 weeks, Choosin Texas got 1 week at #1 & the UK public were right & should say it

Next time a publication puts together a list of the top 100 somethings, rather than spend forever arguing about what has or has not been chosen or what ranks where, I'd like everyone to carefully consider how the list was put together and why it was made specifically to annoy me.

Working on a project, found a guy who knew a great deal about the subject, met up with him, arranged to meet again later that week, emailed again to confirm, no response. Now 3 months and 4 follow-up emails later, still haven't heard back from him. Really frustrating and I just don't get it.

Just finishing reading Preston Lauterbach's book "Before Elvis" - it has the same title as another book by Larry Birnbaum, both books are excellent, but both take their title from a John Lennon quote - "before Elvis, there was nothing" - and neither seem to understand what Lennon was saying.

We were once stuck at a tiny airport in a place called Jinhong in South-West China for over 24 hours and the disgruntled passengers almost formed a new civilization. It would be a good format for a film, surprised it hasn't been done (to my knowledge)
