Today’s golfing Link Salad contrasts World Water Day with the first Masters in 1934 — a lush Hanging Gardens-style oasis set against desert scarcity. ⛳🌊 www.linksalads.com/2026/03/22/w... #WorldWaterDay #Golf #WaterScarcity #WorldWaterDay #TheMasters #Golf #WaterScarcity #Sustainability #LinkSalad
Today’s golfing Link Salad image plays on a deliberate contrast. World Water Day exists to highlight the global challenge of water scarcity, yet 22 March 1934 was also the day the first Masters began at Augusta National. That gives us a set of golfing links in every sense: connections between ideas, and a sport built around some of the world’s most carefully maintained green landscapes.

The image pushes that tension further by reimagining the course as a lush Hanging Gardens of Babylon oasis surrounded by desert. It is beautiful, but it also raises an uncomfortable question about the water needed to sustain such spaces, especially in hot and arid climates. In that sense, the image is not just about golf. It is about abundance, scarcity and what green landscapes can hide.

Happy MAR10 Day 🍄 (Super Mario Bros., 1985) Happy Birthday Jon Hamm (1971) — Don Draper, Mad Men Happy Anniversary ☎️ — first telephone call (1876) #linksalads #MAR10day #SuperMario #Nintendo #JonHamm #MadMen #DonDraper #OnThisDay #GamingCulture #Advertising #1960sStyle
Pixel-art scene inspired by the Super Mario Mushroom Kingdom. A go-kart race takes place on a bright track surrounded by red-and-white mushrooms, green hills, floating coins and classic Mario question blocks. At the front is a sharply dressed 1960s advertising executive resembling Don Draper from Mad Men, wearing a suit and smoking a cigarette while driving his kart. Behind him, several other suited advertising men drive karts while talking on their mobile phones. The scene links three things associated with 10 March: MAR10 / Mario Day celebrating Super Mario Bros. (1985), the birthday of Jon Hamm (1971) who played Don Draper in Mad Men, and the 150th anniversary of the first telephone call in 1876. The visual joke is that Don Draper is leading the race while everyone else is distracted by their phones. 🍄📞🏁

Sometimes you have to break the photography rules and shoot into the sun! Fauskasandur (possibly, or could be Lækjavík - names on maps vary!) in south-east #Iceland yesterday.
A stack sits on a black sand beach with some mountains behind, a little snowy, some frozen low cliffs, and white waves coming in. Backlit, so harsh light.

Life in sepia... Another one from that windy sunset at Vestri-Fellsjara beach at Jökulsárlón a few days ago. #Iceland
Stormy seas with northerly winds blowing the black (brown) sand down the beach and into the breaking waves. Sunset light, so looks sepia.

Happy 80th birthday to David Gilmour 🎸 and happy 551st birthday to Michelangelo 🎨, creator of the statue of David in Florence. Two Davids. One date. Six centuries apart. #LinkSalads #VisualStorytelling #OnThisDay #HistoricalConnections www.linksalads.com/2026/03/06/t...
🎸 David Gilmour turns 80 today. As the guitarist of Pink Floyd, his playing helped define albums like The Dark Side of the Moon, where music, atmosphere and visual design came together in one of the most recognisable pieces of album art ever created.

🎨 Michelangelo would be celebrating his 551st birthday today. The Renaissance master sculpted David, the iconic marble statue that still stands as one of the defining symbols of Florence and of the artistic confidence of the Renaissance.

Two Davids.
Two art forms.
One date on the calendar.

From marble sculpture in Renaissance Florence to the soaring guitar lines of progressive rock, today’s Link Salad shows how creativity echoes across centuries.

5 March 1953: Stalin dies. On the same day the composer Sergei Prokofiev also dies — almost unnoticed. Today his “Dance of the Knights” echoes in stadiums and on The Apprentice. History remembers power. Culture lasts longer. 🎼🥗 www.linksalads.com/2026/03/05/d...
5 March 1953.

The death of Joseph Stalin dominated global headlines.

But on the same day another Russian giant died — composer Sergei Prokofiev.

His music lives on through Dance of the Knights, heard today in stadiums, television and even The Apprentice.

In this Link Salad montage, the Soviet power struggle between Malenkov and Khrushchev becomes a dramatic dance-off… while Alan Sugar looks on, thoroughly unimpressed.

History, music and television — all on one date.

If Starmer is no Churchill, then Trump is surely no Roosevelt. History has a way of setting the bar. www.linksalads.com/2026/03/04/t...
Two presidents.
Two moments in history.

On 4 March 1933, Franklin D. Roosevelt delivered one of the most famous political lines ever spoken:

“The only thing to fear is fear itself.”

Nearly a century later, that message about leadership, confidence and resilience still echoes.

Today’s illustration contrasts a modern Oval Office with the black-and-white footage of Roosevelt’s inauguration — a reminder that the words of the past can still challenge the present.

Outside the window, crocuses bloom, signalling the arrival of spring.

Sometimes history doesn’t just sit quietly in the past.
Sometimes it looks straight back at us.

April 2025 was bluebell month! Having moved to Hertfordshire I was much nearer to an old beloved bluebell woods where I grew up, and on the doorstep of Ashridge, famous for its bluebell woods. So here's a bluebell #AwesomeFoursome :)
Tall beech tree trunks with a few early green leaves above a carpet of bluebells. Behind the sun is coming up giving a lovely warm glow on the trees and flowers.Morning dappled sunshine on a woodland with lots of new beech leaves and a carpet of bluebells.A low-down shot of a tall bluebell standing above the others. The rest of the shot is intentionally blurry, with some trees and leaves just visible behind. The whole scene is bathed in soft morning light. An intentional camera movement (ICM) shot of trees and bluebells. The photo goes from bluebell mauve at the bottom to bright green at the top with the new leaves.
