National Bogong Moth Day would be a worth public holiday every year. Certainly better than having a day off for the Melbourne Cup!
Top Section
• Visuals: A line of small, abstract cartoon figures and moths are marching from left to right on a patch of green grass against a light blue sky.
	• The figure on the far left holds a tall pole with a large moth model on top, resembling a parade float.
	• One character wears a full moth costume.
	• Other characters carry small signs. One sign reads "THANK A MOTH" and another reads "SAY NO TO PORCH LIGHTS."
	• A character toward the right holds a green flag that says "BOGONG."
• Text: Speech bubbles at the top read: "Surely bogong moth migration season should have a public holiday and some sort of parade or festival... Bogong Moth day!"
Bottom Section
• Visuals: The background is a solid off-white. In the bottom right corner, a single cartoon moth is holding a smartphone, seemingly reading the text.
• Text: The main caption reads: "Remember - these moths are not an inconvenience they are a blessing. EVERY MOTH IS PRECIOUS. Perhaps they are a sign that all is not lost..."

Horrible story. Student journalists doing the JOB, braver & more dedicated to truth & public interest than a lot of mainstream media proprietors. I hope every Australian school & uni is also now scared of lawsuits from students who've been harassed and attacked. www.cornellsun.com/article/2026...

Latest energy figures are out for 2024-25 - once again 83% of Australia's gas is exported or used to convert gas to PNG exports. There is no gas shortage. We do not need more gas. We need to #TAXtheGAS
Charts showing in 2024-25 4,862PJ of gas was exported or used in LNG plants, while only 1,016PJ was use by the domestic economy of mining, manufacturing, residential and gas power plants.

exactly what people of my generation are looking at now, and thinking, it's all a bit too much and will cost more...governments should waive fees and charges, get oldies into places they can manage and pave the way for younger families coming into homes like ours.. www.abc.net.au/news/2026-09...

Some empty nesters want to move into smaller homes but say the cost of doing so keeps them in their large properties.

Country’s top auctioneer says first home buyers should stop dining out

Lucy Slade
Property reporter
Sep 8, 2026 – 3.06pm

One of the country’s highest-profile auctioneers says younger people are spending a fortune going out to dinner when they should be staying home and saving to buy their first property – in regional Australia.

Damien Cooley, an auctioneer at Cooley Auctions, told The Australian Financial Review Property Summit that buyer sentiment was at a record low and changes made by the Albanese government in the federal budget in May were worsening – not improving – conditions for first home buyers.

Two panel comic. Panel 1: breaking news drone footage of an overturned truck with a giant barrel in place of a cargo bed, floating in a body of water. A fire truck and some locals surround the scene. On screen text reads: “BREAKING; Whisky truck crashes into Loch Ness” Panel 2: the Loch Ness monster is facedown in a bush, totally passed out. A local Scot security guard is passing by in a golf cart. He exclaims, “Crikey— what’s this!?”
