Visited the Brunel Museum in Rotherhithe, cycled across central London on an ebike of course, nice autumnal day, quite windy so the e-assist helped!

Lots of Beryl bikes at Watford Junction this chilly morning. No protected cycle lanes on any of the main roads leading to this station. I don't know, maybe we should actually start taking cycling as a form of transportation seriously...

some councils now have car free streets, i was in hackney and there are no cars" was busy so didn’t comment - next time we're all in the office I will educate them...maybe put reading Curbing Traffic and Life after Cars as a performance target.

Overheard a very motornormative conversation in the office today. One of my team who lives in very inner London next to a tube station is buying her 1st car, heard 2 other colleagues talking about it. "Her flat doesn't have parking" "Thats mad" "

Cycle back from the station and of course the cycling contraflows through west Watford are blocked by parked cars. The number of cars parked overnight on double yellows is ridiculous - will be bringing this up (again) with the Cllr responsible at next week's Watford cycle forum.

These are Moylan’s full comments on floating bus stop bike lanes. This is the sort of transport policy almost every other European nation would find deeply weird.
“People who haven't seen a floating bus stop might think it's got nothing to do with them and they're safe. But I can promise you, the zealots behind these bike schemes are coming for you.
“So you will get a floating bus stop if you don't have a Conservative government, because we are going to put an end to them.
“These are bus stops, basically where the cycle lane sits between the pavement and the boarding area for the bus. So to get to the bus stop when the bus comes, you have to cross over the cycle lane.
“Of course, the cyclists are all meant beautifully to stop for pedestrians across, especially for blind pedestrians who are crossing. They never do. There are horrendous videos of cyclists racing through them. “Now we've announced that we are going to put an end to these. It'll take little time. We'll get rid of the most egregious ones immediately.
“We'll prevent any new ones coming along, and we'll design out the others as they go on, because they are hated by people, especially by the blind, by pedestrians, by elderly, by anyone who just does not want to have to think about a crazed bicycle coming at them at high speed, when all they want to do is get on the bus.”

A lot of people commute the other way too. Pre-covid I had a conversation with Watford's Mayor who told me that data showed more people from Greater London work in Watford than the other way round.

Hertfordshire County Council doesn't care about making streets safer, doesn't matter which party is in power. "It comes after a serious crash involving a pedestrian in Hampermill Lane, two serious motorbike crashes in Eastbury Road, and 24 other collisions causing injury between 2021 and 2025."
Watford Observer headline: No speed cameras commitment despite 27 injury crashes and 254-strong petition.

Terrible policy when domestic transport is the biggest contributor to greenhouse gases in the UK. We need to be going all-in on helping people AWAY from reliance on fossil fuels, not subsidising their use even more than we already do.

The RNLI rescued Luftwaffe pilots in WW2 because the organisation is there to 'save life at sea' - it's something to be immensely proud of. But as I've said many times before Farage and Co don't seem to have pride in Britain and its institutions beyond flags and crap Enoch Powell said 60 years ago.

Change the way we travel? Then mandate that councils MUST rapidly roll-out safe, connected, direct cycle infrastructure everywhere (+fund them). It takes 15-20 mins by e-bike to travel across town, but direct uses a 40mph road with guaranteed close passes and only a narrow footpath for active travel

Find your posts on trade informative but this thread... last year someone cycled into me while walking on the pavement, didn't expect mythical "cycling community" to take responsibility for it any more than the "driving community" to take responsibility for the driver that crashed into my car.

I see there's more Bad Cyclists Discourse again. It's actually a symptom of how broken the UK's road network planning is, but it's easier to complain about what just *nearly* happened to you than to pause for thought about the "why" it nearly happened. The actual real problem is political.
