Question for fellow trans people: How do you go about discussing surgery with close family? Especially if it’s a topic you haven’t brought up before or discussed in a while?

The best part of having a shared Zotero library with a collaborator--getting to see what interesting papers they're reading. Do I have any idea what they're doing with half of these papers, absolutely not.

The fight for trans liberation and liberation for neurodivergent (and disabled people in general) is the same fight! So many actions taken against one group WILL hurt the other, not to mention all the people who are both trans and disabled (our strongest soldiers tbh)

Lastly, I discuss the ethical question of (mis)gendering people. Assigning a gender, especially to trans, queer and gender diverse people, is an act of harm Just because an algorithm is doing it on this case, doesn't make it better. In fact, trans problem report it makes it worse

Parted my hair differently before putting it up before bed so I don't get tangled in it overnight. Found a lot of silver hairs I didn't know I had. I think I need 1-2 business days to work out how I feel about this.

Truly, I think my "best" one: washing one of my phases in a separating funnel. Inverted it to vent CO2 and guess who forgot gravity existed. Turns out the stopper doesn't stay in by magic. I watched 2 weeks worth of synthetic work escape in slow motion; attempted to catch it, unsuccessfully.

I love it so much when microsoft installs updates and it makes useful things like WSL stop working. All I wanted to do was run something in the terminal to paste it's output in a presentation. Not spend 45 mins and counting trying to get WSL to boot...

The question isn't whether academia is worth saving. It's whether the version of academia we've built is worth saving. If we want the next generation to believe in academic careers, “more funding” isn't enough. The incentives, working conditions & definition of academic success need to change too.

Brilliant checklist for trans people working with therapists from Therapists Against Conversion Therapy and Transphobia. therapistsagainsttransphobia.org/2026/08/26/n...
A set of prompts and questions for anyone looking to understand if their therapist is trans-affirming. The image is in two columns - red flags and green flags. The resource is created by “therapists against conversion therapy and transphobia” and at the bottom is the TACTT website: www.therapistsagainsttransphobia.org.

The image text reads: Heading: Is my therapist Trans Affirming?

Column 1: Green Flags
Subheading 1: Identity and Autonomy.
Respects different choices and stages of social and medical transition.
Listens to and validates your experience without deciding for you.
Supports you through transphobia without suggesting you change.
Subheading 2: Knowledge and Beliefs.
There’s no “right way” to be trans, cis, man, woman, or any other gender.
Recognises impact of being visibly or openly trans.
Respects experiences that don’t fit familiar frameworks.
Encourages self-advocacy and promotes trans joy.
Doesn’t assume trans identity is caused by trauma or fear of being gay, etc.
Educates themself about trans issues, terminology & current happenings.
Understands that dysphoria is not universal and experiences vary.
Is informed about trans history & how wider systems shape trans experiences.
Recognises neurodivergence doesn’t disprove or cause trans identity.
Supports your exploration without an agenda to change your identity.
Subheading 3: Understanding Transphobia.
Understands mental health difficulties result from social injustice, not identity.
Understands trans-specific misogyny, fatphobia, racism and other bigotry.
Understands gatekeeping, barriers to and disparity within trans healthcare.
Understands non-binary and GNC-specific challenges and bias.
Subheading 4: Language and Respect.
Owns mistakes, such as misgendering, without centering themself.

Column 2: Red Flags
Subheading 1: Identity and Autonomy.
Repeated misgendering, degendering or refusal to use appropriate language.
Refers to your past self using deadname or assigned sex at birth.
Doesn’t accept …

academia is rife with fragile egos and bad behavior. so hey, celebrate the awesome academics in your life. tell folks they’re awesome as often as we (rightfully!) trash-talk fragile ego-driven bad behavior. no one does this job alone, for better or worse. better is worth acknowledging too, imho.

What we almost always discover is academic bullies and bigots don't stop, so if they aren't tackled firmly and early they grow more powerful. It's also true that they'll position themselves as victims. And they will always have supporters and further opportunities. Their victims fare less well /5

Decades of research on bullying in academia tells us abusers are usually known in HEIs (including to HR). They typically stay in post, or are promoted. Their victims (within and outside the uni) are the ones who quit, step down, or are hurt. HEIs generally only act when their reputations are hit /1
