I tried to buy a ticket for a clown show tonight, but I waited too long and it sold out. Maybe clowns are more popular than I thought?

William Corbett, that last line
A SHOWER IN JUNE

Peeling a hard boiled egg
the downpour curls my hair
flick of shell into garbage can
where does memory not intrude?
Another June whose roses
swung “stitched and gored,”
the very words, across stone
swallows this rain and birds’
broken song. Memory
gorges every single thing
who are we to forget so much?

The Peony Ant by Nora Maynard

Beatrice was celebrating her 24th birthday alone, so she bought herself a bunch of peonies at the bodega. Back at her apartment, she arranged them in a glass pitcher she used for lemonade. As she bent to smell the flowered’ fragrance, she noticed an ant. Its glossy body stood sharp against the pink petals, like three dark beads strung on a wire.

Many happy returns of the day, said the ant, tilting its wedge-shaped face towards her.
