DoorDash spent $1.4M trying to stop Zohran Mamdani from becoming mayor. This week's historic $131.5M enforcement action against DoorDash for underpaying NYC delivery workers shows why. Yet another reminder that the only thing that can beat organized money is organized people.

He’s way off good enough. Farage is a populist sloganeer not a responsible strategist. He relies on ignorance/prejudice for power. He hasn’t got a single decent workable idea. If he got his grubby hands on power, he’d collapse the economy in weeks. A nasty bitter little man who’ll only ever do harm.

Americans are relearning the lesson we learned during the Gilded Age of the late 1890s, when robber barons ran the government and the economy for their own benefit: Oligarchy is incompatible with the common good. I'm hopeful we'll respond with a new progressive movement.

A lot of people don’t realize the dust bowl wasn’t a natural phenomenon. It happened when agrobusiness interests dramatically transformed the plains without regard for drought, and created vicious dust storms that choked whole families to death. That’s what I think of when I read about data centers.

No women aged 20-24 in England have died from cervical cancer for the first time, thanks to the HPV vaccine.
A landmark study funded by Cancer Research
UK shows the HPV vaccine is making cervical cancer increasingly preventable, with researchers highlighting a major milestone: between 2020 and 2024, no women aged 20-24 in England died from the disease.

This is remarkable.
Bar chart which shows y-axis running 0-8000, and x-axis showing years 2019 and 2024. For 2019, a light orange bar runs up to just over 6000, with a darker orange running up to 8000. For 2024, a green bar runs up to 4000, with a dark green running to about 5000. The text "40% lower" is on the lighter green bar. Text at the top of the graphic reads "Estimated air pollution deaths are down by around 40%. New analysis estimates deaths associated with air pollution in London reduced substantially between 2019 and 2024." Text at the bottom of the graphic reads "Note: darker shading shows estimated ranges. Data based on a comparison of estimated mortality burden using updated methods and a scenario-based analysis where only air pollution changes. Source: london.gov.uk/aqmortality". The Mayor of London logo sits in the bottom right-hand corner.

Highland cattle are famous for their ability to "disco nap". Normally these brief, efficient sleeps will last between three and twenty minutes, deploying a variety of objects as pillows, including moorland boulders, cars or any particularly large dog or sheep who happens to be nearby.

Norman Rockwell's Freedom of Speech depicts a 1942 Arlington town meeting where the lone dissenter to the town's announced plans to build a new school is given a chance to speak Jim Edgerton agreed but was concerned about the tax burden of the proposal as his family farm had been ravaged by disease
Norman Rockwell "Freedom of Speech" painting of a man in work clothes and worker's hands is standing up at a town hall meeting to say his piece even though it goes against the prevailing opinion, to the interest of those around him.
A memory of this scene struck Rockwell as an excellent fit for illustrating "freedom of speech", and inspired him to use his Vermont neighbors as models for the entire Four Freedoms series.
