Let’s talk about Medicare for All. What would it mean for the individual American? ⬇ The day you’re born you get a card that gives you health insurance with no premium, co-pay, or deductible. Doesn’t matter if you get a job, lose a job, turn 26 or 65, get married or divorced — it's there for you.

Still thinking about the Luddites I came across this. How fascinating it is to watch what might be the germ of a neo-Luddite movement around surveillance technology. And a guy writing a nudge-wink, fuck-the-man, banger of a country song makes me feel American in a way that for once isn’t pejorative.

El Sayed: "When it comes to trans rights, this is the right to get the health care that you need...It’s the right not to be discriminated against by your government because of who you are. Because what tends to happen is they come for theirs, then they come for yours"
The idea that we can assent to the taking away of anybody’s rights, and think that somehow the government won’t come for all of our rights, is itself the problem. And, look, I don’t need people to understand how they use their rights. I just need people to agree that the government shouldn’t be able to take any of our rights. I put my face on the ground thirty-four times a day, David. Most people don’t understand why I do it. I don’t need them to understand. I just want to have the right to do it. And when people decide that they want to take away my right to do that, I’ve got a problem. Now, I hope that everybody’s going to show up and say, No, no, no. You can’t stop that person or that community from reflecting and praying as they choose. Similarly, when it comes to trans rights, this is the right to get the health care that you need. That’s really what it comes down to. It’s the right to be who you are. It’s the right not to be discriminated against by your government because of who you are. Because what tends to happen is they come for theirs, then they come for yours, then they come for theirs. And at some point you live in a society where rights are negotiable, and that is not the America I was born in. It’s not the America I know and love. It’s not the America I’m going to allow somebody like Donald Trump to give us.

Yesterday ICE agents shot and killed Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, a father, husband, and beloved neighbor who spent 35 years building a life in the U.S. Our hearts are heavy with grief for his family and all those suffering at the hands of ICE, CBP, and this administration's unrelenting cruelty.
Graphic with text that says, "Lorenzo Salgado Araujo should not only still be alive - he should be enjoying the beauty of the life he built." With a quote from Ronaldo Salgado that says, "My father was a private man, a man who dedicated his life to work. He worked the last 30 years of his life building homes in the Houston suburbs. Part of his dream was to build a house for himself and his family, just like the hundreds he had built for himself over his career... He achieved it and after it was built and up until the last weekend, you can find him every evening after work, resting on his porch, listening to music, petting his dog. That's how I want the world to know my father. Not as someone who got shot and killed, but as a family man, a man who understood that good things come to those who put in hard work. I am deeply heartbroken to see that the man who taught me the value of hard work, family values, and education will no longer spend an evening on that porch."

"The works of the roots of the vines, of the trees, must be destroyed to keep up the price, and this is the saddest. bitterest thing of all. Carloads of oranges dumped on the ground. The people came for miles to take the fruit. but this could not be. How would thev buy oranges at twenty cents a dozen if they could drive out and pick them up? And men with hoses squirt kerosene on the oranges, and they are angry at the crime, angry at the people who have come to take the fruit. A million people hungry, needing the fruit- and kerosene sprayed over the golden mountains. And the smell of rot fills the country. Burn coffee for fuel in the ships. Burn corn to keep warm, it makes a hot fire. Dump potatoes in the rivers and place guards along the banks to keep the hungry people fron fishing them out. Slaughter the pigs and bury them, and let the putrescence drip down into the earth.
There is a crime here that goes bevond denunciation. There is a sorrow here that weeping cannot symbolize. There is a failure here that topples all our success. The ertile earth, the straight tree rows, the sturdv trunks, and the ripe fruit. And childrer dying of pellagra must die because a profit cannot be taken from an orange. And coroners must fill in the certificate- died of malnutrition- because the food must rot must be forced to rot. The people come with nets to fish for potatoes in the river, and he guards hold them back; they come in rattling cars to get the dumped oranges, bu the kerosene is sprayed. And they stand still and watch the potatoes float bv, listen to the screaming pigs being killed in a ditch and covered with quick-lime, watch the mountains of oranges slop down to a putrefying ooze; and in the eyes of the people here is the failure; and in the eyes of the hungry there is a growing wrath. In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage."
