Two stories, two days apart
New Zealand's Rich Listers climb above $100 billion despite 'tough' times

[Photo of toy company Zuru co-owner and troglodyte, Nick Mowbray.]

NBR's 2025 rich list sees the total valuation pushed to $102.1 billion
The collective worth of the 119 individuals and families profiled is the equivalent of more than 40 percent of the nation's GDP

There are around a dozen new Rich Listers, worth $4.3 billion altogether
Two women, Anna Mowbray and Lucy Liu, have made the list for the first time since 2019

The National Business Review annual rich list has found Aotearoa's wealthiest people are collectively worth more than $100 billion - up from $95.55 billion last year - despite a tough 12 months financially.'We are deeply heartbroken': Free food service shuts doors after 15 years
4:56 pm on 11 June 2025

By Maisie Arnold-Barron

Free Store Wellington, which has operated next to St Peters church on Willis Street for more than a decade, has announced it will permanently close its doors.

The service redistributes food for free every weekday to hundreds of people, donated by more than 60 eateries.

The store said in 2024 it rescued 42,000 kilograms of food, contributed to 126,000 kilograms of CO2-equivalent emissions reductions, and racked up 15,000 volunteer hours.

Spokesperson Scott Reeve said he was "heartbroken" but the decision was made after a significant drop in regular donations.

"We've tried really hard to keep it going, and we are aware of the huge impact this is going to have on people that really need it," he said.

He blamed the increasingly complex needs of clientele, intensified by national policy shifts which made life more difficult for people who were struggling, and the toll on his staff who worked alongside those highly vulnerable people.

Call script for DHS threats against Congress, full carousel here: www.instagram.com/p/DJgRICYOcS...
A social media graphic titled "Call script for electeds re: the DHS threat to arrest MOC post Delaney visit (05.10.2025)". The script provides a suggested message for callers contacting their Members of Congress about a DHS threat to arrest three members of Congress following their visit to an ICE facility in Newark, New Jersey. The script reads as follows:

YOU: Hi, my name is [NAME]. I’m calling from [ZIP CODE].

YOU: I’m calling [MOC] to express my fear and concern over DHS’s threat to arrest the three members of Congress for performing their lawful duty in visiting the ICE facility in Newark, New Jersey.

YOU: The administration’s claims of the electeds supposedly “storming” the facility and harming the ICE officers has proven to be false, and a clear, orchestrated lie by this administration.

YOU: I’d like to know what elected is going to do about this active on the legislative branch of government. The administration continues to escalate their attacks on public servants, and this is a clear and dangerous sign that things are not okay for our democracy and the state of the union.

YOU: Will elected condemn the action? Will elected take action?

YOU: Clarify what else you want elected to do/ask for a written response, etc. [OPTIONAL COMMENTS]
