Notable that the joint statement, while offering rhetoric support, is completely silent on any measures to help the #ICC. Hopefully that is coming. These states are not powerless. The EU, UK and Canada all have the ability to invoke measures to block the impact of U.S. sanctions.

"At the heart of the application for judicial review, filed by Cold Lake First Nations on Thursday, is the community’s concerns about a lack of consultation over the pipeline, which would carry one million barrels of oil a day from Bruderheim, Alta., to Roberts Bank, B.C."
Cold Lake First Nations sits in the middle of oil sands development in Northern Alberta. While the community supports responsible resource development, Chief Kelsey Jacko said in a statement, it wants to ensure activity is “done right, with meaningful consultation and clear answers about the long-term impacts of projects in the region.”

"Musk, meanwhile, is widely loathed here.... The only person more likely to inflame Canadian patriotism is Trump, who gave Musk the National Medal of Science on Thursday," writes @brucearthur.bsky.social. #GiftLink 🎁 www.thestar.com/gift-redeem?...
We should, however, give a moment to ponder the stakes, and why Canadians have responded the way we have. Trump’s brute imperialism aims for control of oil and the Western Hemisphere, at the minimum, and Alberta has both. Foreign interference abounds. The convoy’s march on Ottawa was the impetus for talk in American right-wing circles about invading Canada in order to save it, in 2023. Both Trump and Musk are trying to push far-right policies that are cancerous for the human soul. The old world is dying and the new one struggles to be born and now is the time of monsters, and all that.

And somehow, Canada hasn’t been this united since the last great crisis, separatists and all, and Musk should help that along nicely. May it be ever thus.
