This work is important given the trend towards enrollment in MA over traditional Medicare (TM) fee-for-service for many older Americans. However, we observed a less functionally impaired dementia group in MA compared to TM, indicating MA enrollees with underlying dementia may be inherently healthier

This work is another part of the large body of evidence showing that structural racism (sorry to the NIH higher ups, but that is exactly what redlining is) has lasting effects of Americans in minoritized communities.

This may be due health service providers being better at recognizing symptoms resulting from AD and LATE (which has similar clinical manifestations such as initial memory loss) as dementia. People with 3 or more pathologies also had higher likelihood of a timely dx.

Bryan D. James, PhD @bryandjames.bsky.social · 07/08/2026
We tested whether underlying pathologic causes of dementia were related to whether a person received a timely dementia diagnosis from healthcare providers. AD and LATE (TDP-43) pathologies were related to higher (~×2) odds of timely diagnosis, while neocortical LBD and vascular pathologies were not.

In an age of creeping relativism, a universal moral law still exists. Threatening to end an entire civilization of 90 million people in order to bend a nation’s conduct to your will is grossly morally wrong. It is evil. And we should say this loudly.

Trust in science was destroyed not by scientists, but by the right and rightwing billionaires. I wrote a rebuttal to Douthat’s bad article on Tue w/out even seeing it. Bhattacharya did this. Putting an arsonist in charge of putting their fire out is insanity. 1/
Despite loud voices on the right claiming that scientists have politicized science, the opposite is true. As with climate change and asbestos before it, powerful and wealthy interests found biomedical science, during COVID, opposed to their partisan agenda. So they ran the so-called
"Merchants of Doubt" strategy: they found scientists who would criticize biomedical science and NIH, and elevated them. Such junk scientists, from Scott Atlas to Jay Bhattacharta, were given high-profile platforms on billionaire-owned news networks, and given awards from billionaire-funded thinktanks.
It was primarily billionaires, acting through merchants of doubt they boosted, that
"politicized" science and NIH.
Biomedical scientists should have learned from the assault on climate science. But given where we are now, we cannot return to the old way of trying to ignore power and politics — if we
