My old cross-stitch QR code was looking tired after 2 years, so I made a new one. Much better!

When discovering new games, I sometimes enter a vicious cycle of: "That could be AI. But is it though? But a lot of fuckass AI looks like that. But AI steals real art, so maybe it's just a more common art style, and this one is human-made."

I thought I could use Reddit to learn more about how I can help game devs, but I did NOT expect this level of hate for translators. Every day there's a new post about how "localization companies are a scam" and "everyone uses AI anyway, so there's no point in paying for it".

it’s come to my attention that my tumblr post has been crossposted to bluesky, so I’m posting it on my account here #AntiAI #GenAI

recently my friend's comics professor told her that it's acceptable to use gen AI for script-writing but not for art, since a machine can't generate meaningful artistic work. meanwhile, my sister's screenwriting professor said that they can use gen AI for concept art and visualization, but that it won't be able to generate a script that's any good. and at my job, it seems like each department says that AI can be useful in every field except the one that they know best.

It's only ever the jobs we're unfamiliar with that we assume can be replaced with automation. The more attuned we are with certain processes, crafts, and occupations, the more we realize that gen AI will never be able to provide a suitable replacement. The case for its existence relies on our ignorance of the work and skill required to do everything we don't.

“Let your players localize your game because they know it better than a professional translator” has to be one of the worst pieces of advice I’ve read online.

I just wish every game dev who’s against robot-made art will eventually realize localization is an art too.

Apparently, I've already exceeded my monthly profile search limit on LI? It's bad enough that I can only send 5 personalized messages with connection requests. It wasn't always this pathetic. I refuse to pay for premium if they're deliberately making their product worse to try to force me.

Advocating for what we believe can get exhausting and repetitive. At this point, there's so much information available. I don't wanna even have to interact with someone who disagrees, much less debate. What matters is knowing we're on the right side of history.

I think the best part of working with games is that you don't have to present as a serious person in order to be seen as a serious professional. The reason I enjoy LinkedIn is because I only follow people who are proudly silly, like me

Can we sit down a second and realize that we, translators/linguists, receive waves of AI-training tasks that aim at erasing our jobs over time? Companies have the *audacity* to ask professionals to perform tasks in order to make them redundant faster? That should be addressed a lot more.

It’s interesting how non-native speakers sometimes seem to have trouble assessing the weight of the sentences they use. In the NL, I never know if that’s the case or if I’m actually being insulted. Like when the doctor told my husband to “stop making a fuss” after he broke his leg…
