📖Published📖 Check out our latest review paper 📝 Integrating AI models into ecological research workflows: The case of terrestrial bioacoustics 🌍 🧪 👇 buff.ly/ZKXk23E
An overview of the six sequential stages of the sensors + AI pipeline. The first tier highlights data acquisition stages 1–3: Selecting sensor hardware, deploying sensors and aggregating and uploading data. The second tier highlights data analysis stages 4–5: Using AI and statistics to analyse the data. The top tier highlights stage 6: Insights about ecological phenomena. Each stage builds successively on the ones below it within the context of a single research project. Ecological questions inform the methodology for the bottom tiers of the pyramid, which ultimately determine the scientific insights the pipeline can produce, which themselves inform future ecological questions.

anyways, here’s a how and a why explainer for alt text. the US government decided accessibility was “catering to the weak” as part of the MAHA eugenics agenda. don’t post like those fucking nazi pricks.
An infographic titled "How To Write Alt Text" featuring a photo of a capybara. Parts of alt text are divided by color, including identify who, expression, description, colour, and interesting features. The finished description reads "A capybara looking relaxed in a hot spa. Yellow yuzu fruits are floating in the water, and one is balanced on the top of the capybara's head."An infographic. There are six panels.

1. "Slow internet. Alt text is shown in place of unloaded images." a drawing shows a phone with poor signal, and alt text is visible where the image should have loaded.

2. "Findabillity. Alt text helps to search content." A drawing shows someone searching 'dog with banana' and a post is shown underneath without the words 'dog' or 'banana'. It is implied to be part of the alt text.

3. "Screen readers. Alt is read out to people using text-to-speech software". There is a drawing of the output a screen-reader would show when viewing an image with alt text on bluesky.

4. "Translation. Alt text can be translated". A drawing shows a post being translated. The alt text is also translated into german.

5. "Readability. Text in images can be made legible" There is a drawing of some truly awful handwriting inside a speech bubble. The alt text clarifies what the text is supposed to say.

6. "Disambiguation. Description helps clarify intent." There is a drawing of a post with a picture of a creature. This is styled after the famous optical illusion of a rabbit and a duck. The alt text clarifies that the animal is a rabbit. It definitely looks more like a duck.
