SFFGS Research Professor Sue Lowerre-Barbieri, Ph.D., of the Movement Ecology and Reproductive Resilience (MERR) lab — a SFFGS / @myfwc.bsky.social Fish and Wildlife Research Institute collab — received the @amfisheriessoc.bsky.social Oscar E. Sette Award for Outstanding Marine Fishery Biologist.
An orange congratulatory graphic with white and dark-blue text, two photographs, and a UF/IFAS logo. At the top, “Congratulations!” appears in large white script. Below it, dark-blue text identifies Sue Lowerre-Barbieri, Ph.D., as the recipient of the Oscar E. Sette Award for Outstanding Marine Fishery Biologist. The central photo collage shows a woman on a boat wearing a coral cap, sunglasses, and a light-blue shirt while holding a large fish above the water; a fishing rod and a bridge are visible in the background. Beside it is a close-up portrait of the same woman wearing a blue patterned scarf. White diagonal decorative lines frame parts of the collage. At the bottom, a colorful fish-and-leaf logo appears beside the name of the UF/IFAS School of Forest, Fisheries & Geomatics Sciences.

Dr. Howard Tanner, a pioneering fisheries biologist, educator, and leader, passed away on August 16 at the age of 102. When he became MI's fisheries chief in 1964, he inherited a collapsed food web and a public searching for answers. His bold decision reshaped the Great Lakes: buff.ly/9AVhqgG (1/2)
