I don’t think anyone who wasn’t there for its original run will ever really get how influential Achewood was for an entire time period on the internet. This bunny ambulance for example was certainly a major thing that happened.

The daughter in the happy-family-photo here, Katherine Kang, is currently the campaign manager for Julie Kang. So @sound-transit.bsky.social has just been deceived into plastering up a photo of a political candidate AND their campaign manager using our public dollars, just before the D5 election.

USC Gould J.D. Candidate 2mo • Edited •

After graduation, I flew home to Seattle and stepped into one of the most meaningful opportunities of my life. After nearly a decade of canvassing, phone banking, and volunteering on political campaigns, I'm now serving as Campaign Manager for Julie for Seattle. Every day, I have the privilege of knocking on doors across District 5, creating campaign content, coordinating our incredible volunteer team, and connecting with neighbors who care deeply about their community. It has been surreal to see our yard signs across the district and to read The Seattle Times endorsement. With ballots arriving next week and the primary just around the corner, I'm excited to keep applying everything I've learned over the past three years while continuing to grow through this experience. https:// Inkd.in/gSh_XTrU

I-001 puts kids at greater risk of abuse. We can't let this harmful measure pass. Join Tacoma school counselor Jamie and hundreds of other educators, doctors, nurses, parents, and domestic violence experts by voting NO on I-001 when your ballot arrives. #NoHateWAState
White text boxes are on top of a purple-filtered photo of tall lockers in a high school hallway. The first text box says: Tacoma News Tribune Letter: Oppose Harmful Initiatives I-001 & I-638. The Author is listed as Jaime, School Counselor, Tacoma, WA. The second text box quotes the letter to the editor: "My ability to protect our students’ safety as a counselor would be compromised under I-001. This initiative removes common sense school record protections for victims of child abuse. It also forces educators like me to out LGBTQ+ youth to unsupportive families, putting them at greater risk of abuse or homelessness.” A dark purple footer with white text says Vote NO on I-001 & I-638.

Now I’ll just shop at Westwood Village, White Center, and Burien plus the Admiral area and any Junction business with a parking lot like Trader Joe’s, QFC, Safeway, and Whole Foods. But no more California Avenue Junction retailers.

"Alki Resident," a regular NIMBY in WSB comments, also seems to be thiiiiis close to realizing they're not happy here and should probably move out! They'll gladly pay for the extra gas it takes to drive elsewhere for "free parking spots." That makes lots of sense. Also: "small town?"
Alki resident September 30, 2026 (4:25 pm) Reply
Yes exactly. Say goodbye to our small town. Can’t run around and shop or eat around here without dipping into our pockets. I’ve been thoroughly enjoying eating and shopping outside of Seattle for a few years. What attracts me is the easy and free parking spots and cheaper restaurant bills. Great food and service without breaking the bank. This metering is really my final straw patronizing the junction. Not to mention the frequent attacks on citizens and no security.

Perhaps they can use the avenue to create more bike lanes in West Seattle.

Patty R September 30, 2026 (4:13 pm) Reply
HELL NO!!! Make traffic and safety worse. Start to make bikers have a biking license (pay a yearly fee) and pay for the bike improvements to the roads, and a plate on their bike to report the very bad unsafe riders that are a hazard on our streets. Cars have plate to identify so should bikes.

In my opinion having people pay for parking will not help you find parking in front or close to where you are wanting to go. As a person who has tried to find parking on the Main Street in the junction for the past 40 plus years it’s actually a rarity that I can actually find parking.

Erik September 30, 2026 (1:28 pm) Reply
Shocker. We all called the money grab before it happened. I already find it a pain to go to the junction. Guess I’ll just go elsewhere and not frequent the businesses because paying to park is just a freaking scam at this point.

Jim September 30, 2026 (3:41 pm) Reply

I love all of the WSB commenters who are reacting to this by swearing to never visit the Junction again. Like, Eric here sounds like he'd be better served by moving to a different neighborhood!
Eric1 September 30, 2026 (3:10 pm) Reply
It isn’t that the Junction will actually cease to exist – it will still be there. It is just the shops and people patronizing the Junction that change. There is a Bakery Nouveau in Burien (which I went to today) to buy a cake. I haven’t eaten in the Junction probably since right after Covid. Lots of the classic restaurants are actually still around. Kamei Japanese Restaurant is now in Tacoma/Lakewood (went to visit them) and Mashiko is in White Center. While my job keeps me in the city of Seattle, it makes it easier to avoid spending money in Seattle if you want to charge me for the privilege.

Pyrrhonism is interesting lens for a lot of modern discourse, but I haven't yet been able to reconcile its most fundamental tenets with morality/ethics. To me, things like "trans rights are human rights," and "everyone deserves food, housing, and healthcare" are evident and true by nature.
