Drew Struzan literally traced the photos he used. Projected and traced. He talked about it in his method video for a Hellboy 2 poster. Maybe photo bashing is another thing entirely because it is literally someone else’s art? Don’t moralize methodology. Celebrate the human that makes the work.

Feb 2022 I sketched a Nothic for practice. I didn’t post it until May 2022 because I felt embarrassed about my skills. I wasn’t as good as other artists in the industry. In Oct 2023 I got to illustrate the Nothic for the Monster Manual. A fun surprise, but I’m still trying to improve. #dnd #horror

Every writer who generates a slop image for their work is a class traitor. "I can't afford a visual artist" So your solution is stabbing artists in the back? Stealing from them? Furthermore, slop-generated imagery suggests slop-generated writing. That's how you're presenting yourself.

A sorceress astounded by her freshly sculpted homunculus. A single shaft of light illuminates her creation. Bounce lighting reflects upon the sorceress. The homunculus has a flaccid butt.

The maker's hands are covered in fresh clay. They are the only body parts of the sorceress that are directly lit. Faint, residual purple smoke wisps from her fingertips: the homunculus stands in an awkward pose, that of a creature freshly adjusting to its body.

The homunculus has thin limbs and a hefty torso, though it is faced against the viewer. The sorceress's workshop is littered in sculpting tools, brushes, an open tome of transmutation, ceramic bowls and a pitcher of dirty clay water in which lie a few of these tools. Clay shavings are scattered about the floor. A red, runic circle surrounds the humonculus.

In the dark background it is possible to catch a few failed prototypes on a shelf.

Clay shavings are scattered about the floor. A red, runic circle surrounds the humonculus.

In the dark background it is possible to catch a few failed prototypes on a shelf.A giant cyclops. Slender, female. Her armor is golden bronze, made of large plates with shield-sized domes protusions, which help veer off attacks. She wears a golden diadem, golden earrings, and her single eye is bright blue. Her armor shines from the warm light that trickles into the large chamber, pouring in from an off-scene oculus. Her face partially in the dark, tall that she is, only illuminated partially by the bounce lighting of her armor. Her right arm adjusts her belt, while her left arm is lifted, underneath it; we see a shirtless servant on top of a tall staircase, tying the laces of her bracer. The staircase is built of beige stone. The bracer is almost the size of this person. By the cyclops' feet, we see two other servants donning her greaves. One of them holds the giant slab of bronze in place, while the other, behind the cyclops' calf, ties up the laces. The floor is a white marble tile, giving the entire scene a slight reflection.

Did you know a single greave of this Cyclops weighs around 150 kilos?

Behind the Princes Warrior, we see a 2 story tall greataxe. It is brightly illuminated by the single shaft of light that brightens the entire room. In fact, the entire scene is illuminated either by the natural light, or the bounce lighting of the cyclops' armor, giving the entire painting a warm look.
A night-time, rainy alleyway: stealthy obscura spies clad in overcoats and leather, using blue magic to stick to walls, stalk a rival mobster below. Two Carverine (orc-like humanoids), a male and a female, ride alongside eachother, on top of war hippos. They hold each other's arms. With the other hand, the female orc displays a freshly decapitated head - the enemy king. While the male lifts his axe up in prideful show. Both orcs have red hair and pinkish-gray skin, similar to the hippos they ride upon. The carverine have long, elephant like tusks, and wear minimal bronze armor.

A large, reddish figure whose body is predominantly made of rows of bones and exposed flesh, sits on a huge stone throne. They hold a long staff with its tip spreading out into smaller branches, which emit a warm light. Above their head, a pale-yellow halo glows in multiple spikes. To the left of the canvas, a smaller, mannequin-like character stands before them on top of a hand shaped stone platform.A horned and almost entirely covered creature stands in the middle of the picture. Frayed layers flow around its body, kind of disintegrating as they move. A dark face with bright eyes is barely visible. Behind it, we see a stony and almost organic setting in mostly blue and greenish colours.A huge monster with (at least) four arms, two considerably larger than the others, several horns and a blood-looking substance dripping from its open mouth, is coming out of a misty portal in a round, stone altar surrounded by tall walls with sculptures/engravings. We see several human characters in red robes lying dead on the floor.A ghostly white head with long hair and a circlet is trapped in a glass jar with a metal, spiky lid tied with chains. The head is screaming with its mouth open wide, while a purple ooze flows from it. The jar is on top of an altar of sorts with runic inscriptions on the steps leading to it. Behind it, a huge, dark creature with long extremities looms over the scene, with its hands surrounding the jar.
