Drew Struzan literally traced the photos he used. Projected and traced. He talked about it in his method video for a Hellboy 2 poster. Maybe photo bashing is another thing entirely because it is literally someone else’s art? Don’t moralize methodology. Celebrate the human that makes the work.

Feb 2022 I sketched a Nothic for practice. I didn’t post it until May 2022 because I felt embarrassed about my skills. I wasn’t as good as other artists in the industry. In Oct 2023 I got to illustrate the Nothic for the Monster Manual. A fun surprise, but I’m still trying to improve. #dnd #horror

“Stasis” is a portrait painted by the artist Zara Alfonso, and is the first piece in her series about invisible illness.
