Abundant Housing Illinois @abundanthousingil.bsky.social · 3h
The Shape Oak Park study found a plethora of nonconforming multi-family homes in areas with R1-R4 zoning, which allows only single-family housing to be built. These "middle housing" types would not be permitted to be built (or rebuilt) today. (Nonconforming homes are shown in orange on the map.)
A map of Oak Park north of Lake Street.

Blues show multi-family zoning types R5-R7, with darker blue showing middle housing types.

We actually don't need to coddle the feelings of drivers to effect change. Given the state of carnage on our streets, drivers and the leaders who push car-centric policies *should* be made to feel bad. I say this as someone who drives. It's not about individuals. It's about a system of harm.

Honestly, when we just politely pointed out that "hey, 7 people died on our streets last year," it was jarring to a lot of people because no one ever took note of that. Shake their foundation that everything is OK, then tip the world view over.

It's incredibly hard being on that blurry line, when sometimes you want to grab the person you're practicing with and shake them violently, screaming "why don't you get it? I've given you all the cover!" and sometimes you want to hold up your hands to your advocates, "give us time, it's happening"

This is what has effectively happened in both Chicago and Illinois at large. Lots of pols out there that very hurriedly erased the bottom legs of their R to pretend they've always been Ds.

The whole making content while driving thing has gotten entirely out of hand. By the way, this is not a right-wing thing. Plenty of influencer types across the political spectrum are using their phones while driving.

Might have enjoyed responding to this spam text a bit too much. I don't ever do it, especially for wrong number messages, but bringing the Mother Church in crossed a line for me. I am no longer a practicing Catholic, but I'm still culturally one.
A text exchange from (262) 235-2547 which reads:

"Wisconsin Catholics can decide this governor's race.

Unless you vote for Tom Tiffany, the radical Left in Madison keeps coming after our children, our families, our taxes, and our Faith.

You cannot sit this election out.

Please watch the short video, then stay by your phone. We will call you at 7 for a townhall.

Vote ASAP.

Stop=End"

The recipient of the spam text responds:

"Don't you DARE bring the Mother Church into this. Apt that you put taxes before faith as it shows yourself to truly just be the moneylenders who deserve to be scourged from the Temple. This Knight of Columbus looks forward to seeing you likewise driven from public office."

How can we discuss apples without applerankings.com
Review of the Red Delicious apple
Score: 25/100, "coffee grounds in a leather glove"Gala apple review: 68/100, "the base model"

The Gala is a robust apple that can be and is grown all over the world all year-long. As a result, it has become a wholly inoffensive mainstay that can be found in any supermarket, at any time, anywhere in the developed world. In fact, in 2018 the Gala surpassed the gag-worthy Red Delicious as America’s Most Popular Apple. This does not mean the Gala is some kind of transcendent Godsend. On the contrary, it is more akin to an uncool step-parent who eventually wins you over simply by consistently showing up. Red Delicious – please leave, we have a new father now.

Sidewalks that dump pedestrians into the street for the benefit of turning cars is hostile design. It shouldn't be allowed design in any proper city. 90° corners direct behavior and force motorists to slow their speed and pay attention. This is how you create safe streets.

Kind of a reverse benefit of setting aside bus only lanes is that it creates a presumption transit will exist there into the future and allowing for conversion to dedicated service once ridership or need reaches the necessary level of demand.
