The largest storm surge at any NOAA tide gauge from #Isaias was at Panama City Beach: 5.6' above Mean Higher High Water (MHHW). This is their highest water level on record, beating the 3.79' set during Hurricane Michael in 2018. Records are not very long-term, though, extending back only to 2008.

Sequence of OFCL and Google DeepMind forecasts verifying ~at the time of landfall for Isaias. GDMI was never more than ~50 nm to the left of landfall and never more than ~4 h slow - very consistent and impressive. OFCL started with larger left and slow biases but corrected them very quickly.

It feels like once the big names returned (Adley, Roman, Story) that the energy changed. The gritty underdogs, bunting at times and aggressive on the basepaths, the bunch that had that super hot streak, that energy just… went away

Kind of an impressive setup over Southern California that is not unlike predecessor rainfall events we see in the Southeast during hurricane season. Record atmospheric moisture over LA midday with entrance region jet dynamics. 🌧️
A multimodel blend showing forecast atmospheric moisture percentiles at 11am PT. The light blue area near LA is where precipitable water is at record levels for this time of year. Warm water from El Niño and climate change amping Marie’s moisture stream. Jet stream conditions this afternoon over Southern California feature entrance region dynamics that focus moisture and lift.

The A's just did one of the coolest things I've seen in their broadcast: Just unfiltered audio of the live director calling a Lawrence Butler plate appearance...that went about as well as they could have hoped for.

It seems recently that when the Red Sox announce something like this, the player is then gone for months (Crochet, Anthony, Mayer, Story...)

Thanks Pete, I was just not aware. It hit me the other day that Crochet opted out of the World Baseball Classic in order to have a solid spring training on a regular schedule. That did not seem to have worked out as well as had been hoped.

I agree with your take, and the ones in subsequent comments. My question now is: what advantage is it to the Red Sox PR people to do this? There has seemingly been a run of 'he'll be back soon' turn into long and/or season ending results. Crochet now, Mayer last year, Houck before that...

Weissert leads the team, by some margin, in 'inherited runners' - why use HIM so often in such situations? It is rather odd that the person who most often is called upon to get outs with runners on base is the one who is worst at it. www.baseball-reference.com/teams/BOS/20...

Good for him - but I am not yet sure why he was brought up. It seemed Zach Kelly was doing fine. This seems like a move that the Red Sox did not HAVE to do, but did anyway.

I presume that if Trevor Story, Caleb Durbin, Jaren Duran, and Roman Anthony were all producing at the expected levels, things would be a bit better. The question now is - how to achieve that.

The sun rises over an intensifying Typhoon Sinlaku as it moves northwest toward the Marianas and becomes increasingly impressive. JTWC now estimating maximum sustained winds of 125 mph, and automated satellite algorithms suggest possibly a bit stronger. Himawari loop from himawari8.nict.go.jp

If I have this correct: The Red Sox have not yet won a game in which they gave up 3 runs (or more). They only win if the give up 0, 1, or 2. I realise that not many games have been played, but this tide needs to turn.

There was not a lot of snow this winter, and thus, not a lot of water in the rivers of the western US this summer. It was as if, out west, winter did not really happen this year.

Hello there Clark. As I had understood it: GFSv17 is to arrive sometime in 2026 or 2027, as is GEFSv13, both of which are a 'more coupled' version of the FV3 based system. Is that still correct? If so - does this MPAS movement happen in... 1 year? 5 years?
