The public, more so than many of its leaders, understands that affordability is a tenuous, almost meaningless thing in a lawless environment. The prices that matter most now are the ones we pay for brazen cheating and corruption absent inquiry and punishment.

New paid media theory. Thinking goes, visual content does almost no work-audio conveys most of the message-but slop can be mesmerizing. So you run stuff like this dirt cheap as skippable ads, and the message will still penetrate. Goal, I gather, is to optimize the visual component not to be skipped.

“To impose real constraints short of impeachment and removal, Democrats would need a working majority of 60—that is, 53 or 54 of their own senators plus six or seven chastened Republicans who’d work cooperatively with Democrats on legislation and oversight, but especially on appropriations.”

It's what explains why Musk runs roughshod over environmental or consumer-safety laws, and Meta thumbs its nose at corporate-tax laws: experience has taught them to expect no punishment. It's elite impunity in practice: when you're a star, they let you do it.

My most basic take is you can't get to outcomes like this unless you're willing to use your leverage. Impeachment is the leverage. Do one every month on a new set of charges, he's done well over 24 months of impeachable stuff. Keep him on trial the rest of the term, park John Roberts in the Senate.
