The conclusion that everyone should have went home because it was undermined by some idiocy is baffling. Would mean the end of basically any protest. Hardly balancing the needs of the residents in the face (as admitted) of the ongoing provocation is it? www.irishnews.com/opinion/mair...

Máiría Cahill: Nationalism must confront its own toxic triumphalism
if nationalism genuinely wants a truly inclusive Ireland, then we all have a responsibility to weed out those within us whose attitudes and mindset are stuck in conflict

The whole episode, does give Nationalist politicians a lot more to think about than ‘error’ - are they still to say to the people they represent that the northern state is without any congealment of bias and force? Hard one to explain.

In the serious realms of Drumcree discourse now. Accomplished professional politican in a “natural habitat” blocking roads. Post hoc, recondite google dredges from India to cover a sectarian sneer.

A reading of Sophocles’ Antigone… One can have a highly compelling, personal grievance against a political authority without displacing the judgement in defence of where it is not owed…

So, the other place is just Orange-Green ChatGTPing responses back and forth now with that annoying cadence. It’s not depression, it’s the entire hell that is your future. And that’s the distinction that matters.

The state broadcaster, Nolan, in going too far to make “someone else’s” point, imputes one act of supposed open disobedience by O’Neill and Carroll with “anarchism” and end of respect for all authority tout court. And the justification for that is what exactly? Do we live in Russia?

It’s now up to the next generation of a flashpoint reboot for the next increasingly silly figure to emerge from the vanishing wellpool of unionist lower-middle ressentiment, after this sell out.

A wild week but craziest to think by the end of today we’re going to maybe have to credit Bryson for a positive contribution to reconciliation after a life of puerile nihilism.

It’s been exposed in how little effectiveness a legal agitation grift actually has - forming the actual green battery no unionist should actually want to see - going by his desperate and unpersuasive shooting off in the situation that was gifted. Still, we we shall see what this deal is.

None of them are flaunting the targeting of Garvaghy as the site of a “culture war”. It’s very far away from the purpose of processions law and to give every party a fair share in justice.

Brendan McNally @brendanmcn.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
I don’t think it’s arbitrary. Read MLK’s Letter from Birmingham Jail. Common good violations of the good like the sectarianism in this case is a reasonable invocation.

Brendan McNally @brendanmcn.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
The point is that it isn’t arbitary. The Orange Order aren’t going to be forced up Garvaghy road against the wishes of the residents, and anyone pretending otherwise is actually being immoral.

The contention that anyone is “bound to respect the courts” is a strategic posture. The law is saturated with ambiguity. It isn’t clear that the residents have lost the right to protest, and the ineptitude of the PC could be put to bed by the police & SOS. www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/comment/as-t...

The Catholic Catechism even justifies armed resistance against oppression in very strict circumstances. None of this should be surprising to an experienced politican in NI to find out that people can make their case against the justice of a law in line with fundamental conscience.

Very odd comment, now deleted, as the Garvaghy road residents are of a Christian background too, and as it happens, Catholic tradition has disobedience to unjust law as a fully orthodox part of its theology.

Charging nationalists with not “having a commitment to the law” is propaganda. Moralising flim flam of a dog whistle to disguise annoyance that they are not submitting to the bullying source of this crisis like the Parade Commission did.

Of course, they did enforce the law. Prudential requirements are a part of enforcing the law. Hilarious to even a legal nitwit like myself that serious about my future now just puts out on video trying to convince real people that the law equates to a command.

In 2025, politicians from the DUP, TUV and UUP complained publicly and in the former two cases made frivolous police reports about a drag queen posing for one photo outside a church in Omagh. Cultural sensitivity for thee, but not for me.

The precipitating cause is the sheer pettiness of what the DUP wants to accomplish for this place. The electoral culture war cannon was first fired with Parachute Regiment tweet, supporting lying mass murderers, and have been dead set on manoeuvring the Executive into a collapse ever since.

Parading disputes are in essence local, but the legitimate objections of residents are by insulting leap of logic the carriers of “how a new Ireland will look”. Pathetic and tribal.

If this reveals anything, it has to be the shallow regard Unionist politicians still have for their neighbours, as little more than atavists. Such as the “orange in the flag” taunt. As if there is no distinguishing between that and the sect formed over a century later from the Williamite settlement.

When I watched Louis Theroux’s manosphere documentary I had the same thought. The absence of empathy and the resentful failure to come to terms with the reality that life isn’t always going to be stable or fulfilling is a post literate phenomenon.

Today’s parades decision has overshadowed reporting about what was laid out in court about Sarah Montgomery's murder - she was 32wks pregnant, beaten to death by the father of her children with a water bottle he was bought for Father’s Day. So many determined to make this dangerous place worse

As Lincoln said, any man can endure adversity, but if you want to test his character, give him power. The parades commission is a great sinecure for the box tickers who were humiliated, so they appeased rather than have the NIO sack them. The price of W/C Catholic rights being the default one as per
