Renee Good's family filed two lawsuits today. The first, against, USG, is a standard wrongful death. The second is a Klan Act lawsuit against Jonathan Ross, AND STEPHEN MILLER and Greg Bovino. It names Nick Shirley and Christopher Rufo as non-party co-conspirators for their racist propaganda.
44. At all relevant times, Defendants Ross, Miller, Noem, Lyons, Homan,
Bovino, and the John Doe Federal Agents acted under color of federal law and within the
scope of a joint enterprise with the private actors described below. Defendant
Lewandowski acted in part under color of federal law and in part, as alleged below, as a
private person, his federal status having been limited to a temporary part-time designation
that his conduct exceeded. Shirley, Rufo, and Ben Bergquam, and the other non-party
private actors described below, agreed to and in fact participated in the conspiracy alleged
here: each acted in concert with, and with the knowledge and encouragement of, federal
officials.

This week has been dense with sad news. There have been a few bright spots too, so I'm really curious to see what @jessicacalarco.com chooses for her news stitches this week!

I literally just started watching for the first time last week with a few friends. We finished S1 last night. I thought it was fine. Has great characters + some great jokes but everything else was mid. I was assuming it gets amazing later bc it has such a reputation. Sad to hear it's already peaked.

This was one of the first things my spouse realized after we'd been dating for a few weeks and he started spending a lot of time around academics. He was so cute and naive. "I thought everyone with a PhD was really smart and put-together." Oh, sweetie, you're adorable.

I hate it here. Love to my trans homies. You matter. You are worthy of love and respect. And healthcare. And human rights. I will go down swinging with you, if it comes to that.

I couldn't sleep last night. I stayed up an extra hour or two just worrying about the Cornell victim because she was doxxed yesterday. And throughout this week I've had flashbacks to my own experiences and had to process them all over again.

NEW: A Texas woman died after being denied an abortion and her family sued the state and her doctors for violating her right to life. They say the ban should be struck down. It's one of several cases challenging abortion laws under state constitutional rights to life and liberty @autonomynews.co

New Lawsuits Argue That Pregnant People Also Have a Right to Life
Lawyers are fighting abortion bans in state court by establishing that pregnant people have a right to life and liberty—or at least self-defense.

Another standout drive-in memory was going to see the 2nd Pirates of the Caribbean movie with a bunch of my Dairy Queen coworkers. We had people in trunks and hidden under blankets to get them in for free. I remember nothing about the movie but that was a very fun hang.

I have SO many fond memories of the drive-in in my hometown! But my favorite is visiting home during college and seeing Toy Story 3 for the first time, just me and my youngest brother. We went to the grocery store first and I bought him unlimited snacks, then we watched the movie under the stars.

This thread is a wild ride. I probably would have found it unbelievable 6 years ago, but something very similar happened to me in 2021. On the way home from a friend's wedding, we were stuck in Mexico an extra night, loaded onto busses with no information. It is so scary and surreal.

I'm glad I read about this! My state will have a constitutional amendment on the ballot allowing the state to set limits on prop tax increases. Sounds good, right? Analysis shows the savings will be tiny for individual homeowners but would give multi million $ breaks to large corporations. 🤬

🎯 Until they stole all that data. This is what folks who say, "Oh, but free data exists," or "What if they paid for the data?" don't understand. "Frontier" LLMs only works thanks to huge data which makes it virtually impossible for "AI labs" to fully remunerate data owners. 🧵 👇

The main reasons I studied computer science were to learn to think and how things worked, before I could use something someone else made. If the focus for students is to enthusiastically use any technology, the moment it is not relevant anymore, they're lost. #1 is biased training, not teaching.

Air gapping apparently wouldn't work in alignment tests because, I shit you not according to this OpenAI guy, one computer could run the CPU hot and tell the other airgapped one it is in trouble. I wish I could get paid $10m a year to say the stupidest cybersecurity thing you've ever heard
Tweet by Fireside Alpha, which reads:
OpenAI's Noam Brown says air-gapping the computers may not stop a misaligned AI, because two air-gapped machines can still talk by running a CPU hot and reading the temperature change.

There's a picture of a white guy with glasses, looking very concerned, under this text.

After my beloved cat Blitz died, I had a REALLY difficult and dark time. (It's been 5 years and I think part of me is still in that dark place, but that's not my point here.) 3 weeks after he died, an emaciated kitten started wandering my neighborhood. She came right up to me. How it's going:

Things I say to my overly energetic dog every day: Don't play so rough with me! I'm not a toy! I'm a lady! The irony of me, the opposite of ladylike, yelling "I'm a lady" always amuses me but she doesn't get it and just plays harder.

Mechanical Turk may be shutting down, but AI will always depend on data workers whose knowledge trains and tunes models. AI runs on extracted cultural skills and knowledge, and culture is always changing. Less the end of an era, but the end of an early prototype.
