My latest: There's an idea that Missouri is a tough place for Florida to play. Is it though, or does Florida had a bad habit of taking bad teams to Columbia? Here's what a careful investigation shows: www.gatorcountry.com/feature/just...

It takes you 20 paragraphs to get to the part of the article where they admit that Mamdani isn't paying the influencers and the reason they are posting videos of the stuff Mamdani is doing is because people are interested in watching it.
The mayor’s office says that it does not pay the influencers. Still, their proximity and access to a figure as popular as Mr. Mamdani can help increase their own social media following and, by extension, potentially put them in a position to attract paid content sponsorships from commercial brands. Some influencers said that when they feature Mr. Mamdani, the videos get more likes and viewers watch longer.

I get lightheaded whenever I think too hard about how the same people who have been working themselves into a frenzy about the ATF and black helicopters and the new world order for decades are now seeing the actual military occupation of a US city and going "just what they needed! Nice and safe!"

"Both sides" always favors the worse side. Worse, "both sides" collapses humanity into two sides, and those two sides are almost always 1) exclusionary supremacists and 2) every other kind of person. It's a shirking of responsibility, framed as above-it-all moral superiority.

Slogans are downstream of tactics which are downstream of strategies which are downstream of causes which are downstream of principles. Maybe I’m wrong—it sure seems as if a lot of people start with slogans. Like starting a house with the shingles. I don’t know what they expect to achieve. Do they?

It’s also not “ideological diversity,” it’s lack of rigor. Lowered standards to accommodate subpar thinkers who launder their prejudices and, when encountering objection, claim persecution to a media apparatus they know will be receptive

"Enough." From The New Yorker, May 16th 2005.
JOE HELLER

True story, Word of Honor:
Joseph Heller, an important and funny writer
 now dead,
and I were at a party given by a billionaire
 on Shelter Island.
I said, “Joe, how does it make you feel
to know that our host only yesterday
 may have made more money
 than your novel ‘Catch-22’
has earned in its entire history?”
And Joe said, “I’ve got something he can never have.”
And I said, “What on earth could that be, Joe?”
And Joe said, “The knowledge that I’ve got enough.”
 Not bad! Rest in peace!

this is kind of the most D thing about Bernie Sanders too; this belief that somewhere out there are better voters than the ones you've got and you just need to kick D voters hard enough and these other people will show up instead.

This is bad and if you think this is what college is about you should feel bad about yourself
As the economist Bryan Caplan has observed, "The main function of education is not to teach useful skills (or even useless skills), but to certify students' employability. By and large, the reason our customers are on campus is to credibly show, or 'signal, their intelligence, work ethic, and sheer conformity." As long as college remains a way for upwardly mobile kids to stand out from one another, and as long as employers believe that a better college degree is a sign of a better potential worker, the American university system should survive, even if teaching methods change.

Misinformation can be unintentional but still damaging. Basic fact (that this article omits): professors are already required to submit syllabi to their supervisors, have those docs reviewed by admin, and are consistently evaluated by colleagues and students. 1/4
