New ms! During choice behavior, OFC neurons encode decision input and output, suggesting the presence of a neural decision circuit within this area. Computational models support the hypothesis, but little is known about actual – or at least functional – connectivity in OFC.

CIHR has launched a trial ballon that suggests shifting to one competition a year. This is the worst idea I have heard in a long time. The only benefit is making top-line success rates look better than they are. Keep it as is, do in-person reviews, and keep the pain in the open.

I didn't just go to college to become a good worker in a profession. I went to prepare myself to have a rich life of the mind and to be a good and well-informed citizen. That sounds super corny, but it was and remains a worthy reason to get a liberal arts education.

Another one could be related to how we think about gliomas and brain cancers and how neural activity promotes brain tumor growth and resistance. This is a growing 'cancer neuroscience' field and has really important implications for treatment of brain cancers.

Another breakthrough discoveries in my field are optical and chemical actuators (eg. optogenetics/chemogenetics). These have led to a revolution in circuit-based neuroscience and discoveries on how the brain functions. These are just starting to be translated to clinical applications.. we will see?

It is also one of the fastest translation of fundamental discovery (in 1998) to treatments on the market (eg. suvorexant approved 2014). For more info on the peptides and drugs see DOI: 10.1124/pharmrev.123.000953. I've wondered why this discovery hasn't won big prizes.

I also think that the discovery of orexin/hypocretin is a major breakthrough. This discovery (DOI: 10.1073/pnas.95.1.322 and DOI: 10.1016/s0092-8674(02)09256-5) led new approaches for treatment for narcolepsy and insomnia, new ideas about how arousal and reward systems are intertwined...

I think GLP-1 agonists are an exciting and impactful discovery. The fundamental discoveries set the field up for discovery and translation to the variety of commercially available GLP-1 agonists used for diabetes and obesity - with impact in comorbidity.
