funny to me that last year taylor lorenz was privately trying to suggest i was being funded by peter thiel after we got into an argument over her shitty takes, and now she’s literally running cover for him saying being evil is good. quite a journey she’s on.
Taylor Lorenz: "Listening to this whole interview and these comments in context you see he is actually making a pretty nuanced point. You can criticize him all u want but taking clips out of context to manufacture outrage is so lame— critique what he actually said!"

blizzard workers had to fight tooth and nail for years, but they finally did it: they secured a union contract not just for one team, but for all unionized units--warcraft, overwatch, diablo, and more
“We really started mobilizing as one Blizzard unit in [the] last couple of months, and I think that really helped put the pressure on,” Paul Cox, senior game designer on World of Warcraft, told Aftermath.
"I feel like the company dragged its feet and did a lot of posturing and wasting time until the very, very last moment."
Prior to spring of this year, the WoW team, which unionized in 2024, had gotten the lion's share of bargaining time. Other units found themselves stuck in the mud. Higher-ups were effectively stalling the whole process—unfortunately nothing new for unionized workers under Microsoft’s umbrella.
"For this whole year of bargaining on the Diablo side—and I imagine on the rest of the units as well—we received so few [bargaining] dates, but we kind of had the understanding that whatever WoW was able to win would at least influence and set the floor for the rest of our units,” Diablo senior environment artist Mahreen Fatima told Aftermath. “We adopted this messaging about how WoW's wins are our wins, so we should be out there mobilizing with them. But truly, I feel like the company dragged its feet and did a lot of posturing and wasting time until the very, very last moment this last month to finally be able to say, 'OK, yes, we are willing to extend this contract to everyone.' We really did not have any indication that we could get this done until last month."

This is a good succinct summary of the intelligence-as-ideology effects I’ve also been talking about lately (Gift Link): www.nytimes.com/2026/09/05/o...
This reality, that Rationalism deeply influenced many of today's major A.I. companies, helps us calibrate the unnerving language we've been hearing from their leaders. When Mr. Altman declares their pending models will be "sobering" for humanity or Mr. Amodei frets that this technology "will test who we are as a species,” it doesn't necessarily mean that they discovered frightening new evidence that something catastrophic is imminent. It is, instead, representative of how Rationalists always think about A.I. In these circles, it's taken for granted that A.I. capabilities will rapidly accelerate and completely transform the world, and to talk about it in any other way would be considered uninformed. For a Rationalist, the only open question is to what degree their heroic brains, carefully trained in the style glamorized by Mr. Yudkowsky's
"Sequences," can prevent these transformations from devolving into extinction events.
