The Democratic Party has let a consulting industry exploit elderly donors in its name, wreck its reputation and finances in the process, and walk away rich whether the party wins or loses. When a mirror is held up, the instinct is to break the glass rather than look. On why the press looks away:

The Bulwark Killed an Investigation into Political Fundraising Spam After Its Publisher Took the Consultants’ Side
This is a story about the Democratic Party captured by its consultants, and about what happens when the pro-democracy press is asked to say so.

I participated in a reading group of Asymptotic Statistics this summer (thanks @bobbygulotty.bsky.social!). The text is very dense and there is not a lot of hand-holding, so I used an AI assistant to write up notes informed by our discussions mollyow.github.io/bloomsday/

JD Vance was right when he said that Watergate would be a 12-hour story today, but not for the reason he thinks, write @bobbygulotty.bsky.social and Zhaotian Luo. bit.ly/3RZY6DP

J.D. Vance boasted that Watergate would be a 12-hour news story if it happened today. @luozhaotian.bsky.social and I show why. It turns out oversight is difficult when prospective autocrats can excuse their undemocratic behavior as mere trolling...

When NAFTA passed the US already had 0 tariffs on 80% of Canadian goods. We have had free trade in auto parts since 1965. This is a return to the days of the Ford Meteor.

Python freaks me out sometimes. Computing beta=(X'X)^{-1}X'y gives dramatically different answers, depending on whether the matrix is inverted using numpy.linalg.inv or scipy.linalg.inv. Sometimes it's better living in the darkness that is Stata. #econsky
