As the founding executive director of HOURCAR, let me say that it is imperative someone steps forward to rescue car sharing AND bike sharing in the Twin Cities. HOURCAR, Evie and Nice Ride--all community-led nonprofits--were beautiful systems that allowed so many of us to live nearly car free.

Contemporary artificial intelligence is to cognition as artificial sweeteners are to good nutrition: full of misleading hype, distracting, and when misunderstood and misused, dangerous to one's well-being.

If Sam Altman, Dario Amodei, and Elon Musk all agree that we have to slow down - and now - something serious clearly happened with a frontier AI model. Journalists should be digging in to this. We aren’t getting the whole story here.

As a child and young adult I always loved sailing on Lake Ontario. The communities that have a shoreline on this beautiful body of water are some that I will always want to return to. Maybe some day I will get to sail across it - sending good wishes to everyone there now.

Lake Ontario's name comes from the Wyandot word Ontarí'io, which is typically translated as "beautiful lake". The Kanienʼkéha called it Katarokwi. Samuel de Champlain called it Lac de St. Louis. The name Lacus Ontario was first recorded in 1660 by Francis Creuxius.

What a lovely day to be outside. Got caught in the rain twice while on two wheels. Paddled a bit on the Minnehaha creek and Hiawatha Lake. I hope everyone had fun at the porch fest and tonight listening to Big Thief play.
Photo from the back of a canoe floating serenely down the calm waters of the Minnehaha creek. The sky is medium blue and white cloud cover is scattered. The trees are very green as is the foliage along the bank of the creek. There is a second paddle in a bag visible at the front of the canoe.

Happy birthday! Just got back from a gentle ride. I hope I can wave to you later should our paths cross. Let’s send you and everyone you see amazing summer energy! (Great soundtrack!)
Newly constructed parklands by the Mississippi River on the Minneapolis side of the river just downstream of the NP-BNSF Minneapolis Rail Bridge. The sun is low in the clear blue morning sky. Green trees are shading the wood chip ground and large sculptural carved sandstone blocks are visible for seating. Morning view of the Mississippi River and Minneapolis skyline from the newly constructed seating area in Orvin “Ole” Olson park. The July prairie grass is long and starting to turn brown. Many native plants are green and the trees and blue sky contrast each other.
