Public service announcement: change your bike brake pads even if they are in spec. after 12m regular use. Admittedly I should have done this a month ago when it tried to kill me but instead adjusted the cable tension as a temporary fix... anyway do it!

I don't know about standard contracts for management but all the medical staff (which are regulated anyway) contracts include data sharing clauses for employment screening purposes and have done for years. If not in management contracts fairly telling? If is then no need...

I fear it is conceptually a simple fix but in practice not so much. See: current eye watering amounts for ESR (that already is a single record of sorts) & CSPS failure with Capita. What would work and admittedly isn't simple but comes with other benefits is statutory regulation of NHS management...

Minister for snake-oil. So either appointed by the type of person who buys snake-oil or sells it. Either way probably not someone you want running a country?

Me looking at UK population pyramid and absolutely bricking it about my future. At current rate of immigration we are completely f****d. There simply aren't enough young people to pay taxes or provide care. If you think the current "boomer" bulge in the pyramid is bad what is coming is far worse.

Perhaps by, I don't know, I'm really going out on a limb here - for starters having exams that are reliable, reproducible, and fair? That aren't stuck in formats from the 18th century?

The role of the media used to be explaining this. But that doesn't create engagement, snappy headlines, stoke division, or create riots and drama. Acquiescing to party politics by publishing briefing against Starmer (which has been going on for 12+ months) is more profitable.

"The country" can't be trusted with stuff like this. They want flashy stuff, sound bites and xenophobia. They don't understand things that have 5-10y horizons and long term planning. As such they demand "instant" things that are ultimately harmful and result in party politics - which ended Starmer

I mean that is important. But wouldn't it be great if politicians focused on, you know, running the country etc. rather than creating enough sound bites and "promises" to win an election? Sadly recently rarely the two are the same.

NHS clinical leadership isn't helping. The vacuum and confusion from lack of explicit SaMD guidance from MHRA is letting leaders suggest "there is nothing to see here" and that routes to local certification for specific prompts would be potentially appropriate. 🤯

final point of this hits the nail really
This proposal will not keep children safe. Child safety looks like well-funded education, robust social services, and meaningful guardrails on the very Al technologies and platforms the current government is eagerly courting. What the UK government wants instead is invisible surveillance infrastructure, switched on by default and potentially rushed into law under cynical pretexts. All of this with scant care for the actual needs of the children they claim to be protecting or the horrifying and far-ranging consequences that will ensue in practice.

The immortal words of Terry Pratchett ring true as ever "A lie can run round the world before the truth has got its boots on." Why let the truth get in the way of a "plausible" lie to stoke division and push extremist views. Safe in the knowledge nobody is going to check the facts.

As usual a very dubious application of s24 and 31. I don't think a list of things that are public can fall under either.

I'm cynical but the bill looks like a way to sidestep existing protections against data sharing in ways the public would find objectional with a "but think of the children" or in this case SPR to prevent opposition. Lack of legal framework isn't even on the list of problems with NHS data sharing.

NHS Goes To War Against Open Source
The NHS is preparing to close nearly all of its Open Source repositories. Throughout my time working for the UK Government - in GDS, NHSX, i.AI, and others - I championed Open Source. I spoke to dozens of departments about it, wrote guidance still in use today, and briefed Ministers on why it was so important. That's why I'm beyond disappointed at recent moves from NHS England to backtrack on…

I just want someone, anyone, to write down in plain English (ideally from the perspective of the service user) how this works; what it proves*; how it proves* it; what it will improve, and what some of the likely shortcomings might be. That's all. For some peculiar reason, this never happens.

Okay as the original publisher is long since gone, here is a version of the (award winning at the time!) thing I wrote on the Pristina Airport incident back in the day. Note Putin's role. Also worth it for this bit of sassiness by the Romanian Foreign Minister. authory.com/JohnBull/Pri...
In frustration, the Russians decided to push their luck. They informed Romania that a transport plane would shortly be entering their airspace, permission or not.

“You could do that.” The Romanian Defence Minister, Victor Babuic told Russian Foreign Minister Ivanov over the phone. “Of course we would be obliged to send up an aircraft to intercept your aircraft.”

Babuic pointed out that in such tense situations, accidents often happen. He couldn’t guarantee that the pilot wouldn’t mistakenly shoot the Russians down.

“Of course this is a crime.” Babuic said, apologetically. “He would be prosecuted under our law, and he would be sent to jail for seven years.”

He paused for effect.

“But he would also be a national hero.” He added, thoughtfully.

The warning worked. No further attempts to reinforce the Russian contingent at the airport were made.
