Dispatches from the Michigan mid-term campaigning. These are from our Lansing city paper. On the left, a thoughtful entry from @abdulelsayed.bsky.social. On the right, the entry from Mike Rogers.
At a town hall in Grand Rapids last
week, a young boy asked me a question:
“What was the driving factor for you to
run for Senator?”
I didn’t have to think twice. My answer
was as simple as it was automatic: “You.”
As a father, my “why” in this race has
always been clear. Our kids are the whole
point. In every child, I see my own chil-
dren.
My brilliant daughters, Emmalee and
Serene, are eight and three. I’m running
for Senate because I want them to grow
up in a world where they and all the chil-
dren they’re growing up with have a shot
at the future they deserve.
But right now, our politics are keeping
that out of reach. For far too long, billion-
aires and corporations have rigged the
system against us all. Special interests
buy and sell politicians while everyday
Michiganders strain under record-break-
ing costs and stagnating wages. Utilities,
insurance premiums, mortgages, gas and
groceries—none of them are affordable
alone. Together, they’re pushing us to the
brink.
I’m running for Senate because in
the richest, ost powerful country in the
world, it shouldn’t be this hard to simply
get by. That’s why I’ve never taken a dime
of corporate money and never will. And
on day one as Michigan’s next Senator, I
will champion legislation to overturn the
catastrophic Citizens United ruling to get
corporate money out of our politics—so
that we can finally build the world our
children deserve.
I am not sure what Mike Rogers would
say if he were asked the same question.
We may never know because he doesn’t
do town halls where such questions are
often asked. Considering the consequenc-
es of the full scope of his career, his honest
answer would likely be the exact opposite:
“To make more money.”
We’ve seen what happens when Mike
Rogers gets a taste of power. We’ve suf-
fered through it before.
Rogers spent twenty years in the state
Senate and then in Congress abusing his
office to enrich himself at the expense of
Michiganders.
He took money from Big Oil – then vot-
ed to ke…An AI-generated comic book, with Mike Rogers as the main character. Buff Mike is the main character and is a swole version of Mike Rogers. The comic is trying to make the case that Abdul will not rebuild the auto industry, but Buff Mike will and that's why you should vote for him.

Here’s what this joy-in-politics looks like in practice at the @wewill2026.bsky.social campaign www.nytimes.com/2026/09/25/o... We Will Win!
Happy weekend friend,

37 DAYS TO GO!!! And there are SO many ways to jump in and be part of these final weeks! We’ve got canvasses, crafts, karaoke, birthdays, potlucks, phonebanks, tie-dye, soup, and opportunities to get involved all across the district. Don’t let November 3rd come without doing everything you can to make sure we flip the House! Take a look at everything happening this week and find your way to be part of a strong finish:

🎨 Sunday at 1 PM: Canvass & Crafts with Will’s Mom
Spend your Sunday afternoon with Will’s mom and friends! We’ll head out for a canvass, then come back together to hang out and get crafty. Bring whatever craft you’re working on, or just show up and join in with the supplies and projects Will’s mom and friends are bringing. No crafting expertise required!

🍲 Monday at 6:30 PM: Friend-a-thon & Potluck
Bring a dish, a drink, or just yourself and join us at campaign HQ for a big Friend-a-thon & Potluck! We’ll have everything you need to participate, plus plenty of food, people to hang out with, and a room full of supporters working together. Come spend the evening with us and help #WeWill close out the quarter together.🎤 Tuesday at 5:30 PM: Canvass & Karaoke
Knock some doors with us, then stick around for karaoke afterward.

🎂 Wednesday at 5:30 PM: Canvass for Stevie’s Birthday
Come celebrate our campaign manager, Stevie’s birthday, and give the best gift you can give to her by coming out to knock doors!

🎂 Friday at 5:30 PM: Canvass for Shian’s Birthday
Then we’re celebrating our field organizer Shian’s birthday, who also happens to be one a fellow ELHS alumni with Will!

💗 Saturday at 1 PM: Mean Girls Day Canvass
They asked us what day it was.
“It’s October 3rd.”
You know what that means: Mean Girls Canvass Day.

Looking for something closer to home? We also have canvasses happening throughout the district, including the greater Lansing area, Eaton, Clinton, Shiawassee, Livingston, and Oakland counties.

And some of our local teams have made canvassing an event of its own. In Eaton County, come canvass and then tie-dye your Will 2026 shirt afterward. In Clinton County, it’s SOUPer Saturday: knock on some doors, then stick around to socialize over Melany’s famous soups.

Can’t canvass? You can still be a huge help.

Phonebank for Will from home, host an out-of-state volunteer, drive canvassers to rural turf, make food for volunteers and staff, or drop off water to keep everyone hydrated.

You can also get your own friends and family involved. Host a gathering at your house, invite some friends over, or bring people together to help out. Will may not always be able to join, but you don’t need the candidate in the room to get people together and be part of what we’re building.

At some point, when we get back on track with building out the renewable energy system, advocates will have to distinguish it very clearly from the data center buildout. They're already doing that in Wisconsin. prospect.org/2026/09/21/w...
Alex Beld, communications director for RENEW Wisconsin, a nonprofit that promotes renewable energy in the state, has watched the two arguments fuse.

“I wouldn’t say we’ve seen a significant shift in favorability for renewables because of the deployment of these large hyperscale facilities,” he said. “What we’ve instead seen is those same groups that have already been pretty strongly against renewables are now using a new talking point—that all of these renewable energy projects we’re seeing come online are all for data centers.”

Tiffany “is tying both data centers and renewables to a land use issue,” Beld said. “He maybe isn’t directly tying the two always, but to some extent he’s talking about both in the same breath.” RENEW’s position is the mirror image—it wants data centers that do get built to run on clean power. “We don’t view it as, ‘Oh, this solar installation is just going to go to a data center,’” Beld said.Meanwhile, utilities are walking back plans to retire coal plants, a point that public-interest lawyer Peg Sheaffer, director of communications at Midwest Environmental Advocates, pressed the candidates on at a town hall in August. And the Union of Concerned Scientists estimated that mid-level growth of data centers in the state could lead to more than 41 million metric tons of carbon dioxide by 2035—equal to the annual greenhouse gas emissions of about 9.6 million gasoline-powered passenger vehicles, according to the EPA.

Utilities are also asking the Public Service Commission for some of the largest rate increases in state history before any of the new data centers have been built and are operating. That is why, Beld said, “we’re starting to have more conversations about how renewable energy is tied to affordability”—a reframing with more purchase in a purple state than talk of emissions.
