and this betrayal opens the door for others to re-engage (see quoted) cause the world decided on "ASEAN centrality" to deal with the situation in Myanmar... and now ASEAN has folded like a paper bag in the rain & we fucking called it... back in 2021... 😡
Milk Tea Alliance - Friends for Myanmar
Statement on the 100th day of the ASEAN's Five Point Consensus on Myanmar

We, activists, organizers, and allied organizations of the Milk Tea Alliance - who have kindled, supported, and mobilized recent and emergent protest movements against authoritarian rule and oppression across Asia and beyond - releases this statement to strongly condemn ASEAN for its utter incompetence in responding to the current humanitarian and political crisis in Myanmar.

ASEAN's Five Point Consensus, which was announced exactly 100 days ago, has proven to be futile. The consensus was weak in addressing issues critical to de-escalating the crisis - such as release of the political prisoners. Yet, despite the low bar it set, not a single point on the consensus has been implemented thus far. Myanmar military has continued to repress, threaten, and murder innocent civilians with impunity and is now weaponzing the pandemic
against its own people. Overall, the consensus only undermined the struggle of the people of Myanmar, rather than deliver the promises it claimed it would serve.
Moreover, it is obvious that the bloc itself is disinclined to take any tangible and effective measure to deter the military in Myanmar. Not only has the ASEAN been unhelpful in resolving the crisis, it has been an obstacle. It has shielded the Myanmar military from a more
comprehensive international response, even giving a veil of international legitimacy by engaging with them.
In this regard, we urge the wider international community to stop centering ASEAN for a resolution of the crisis in Myanmar and instead to step up with stronger, more effectivemeasures against the military themselves.

Also, I want to highlight this part of the case for all the pilots and avgeeks out there. I’ve heard ICE is doing this with manifests from a number of sources, but this is, as far as I know, the first confirmation. Really shows the complicity of the pilot-in-command. This was an Omni flight.
In the latest court filing, ICE officials did not deny any of his claims, and appeared to confirm at least one of them, saying the charter flight's manifest—a printed receipt given to pilots listing all passengers and crew on a flight—
"served as the travel document."

The whole third-country removal scheme is monstrous, but I think leaving people with no ID is low-key one of the worst aspects. You are made stateless. You can’t even get a money transfer from your family w/o ID, so you have to rely on strangers, who always take a cut and sometimes steal it all.

This'll take quite a thread to explain. 1. Yesterday, possibly late morning, a dinghy departed from north of Caen. It seemed lost, and went east along the Baie de la Seine for a long time without pushing outwards towards the UK. It was followed by 4+ French rescue vessels.

2. It did not turn back overnight, remarkably. Instead, sometime between midnight and 2am, those on board began steering for the UK. The track of the French rescue vessel Abeille Liberte shows its route. Those on board were finally brought on board an RNLI lifeboat at around 4pm this afternoon.

4. Following the public track of the Abeille Liberte, Thomas and his group headed into the shipping lanes. Two lifeboats set out from Sussex, and he immediately used a livestream to berate them. They switched their AIS tracking off, presumably in light of the extreme abuse the RNLI has faced.

5. After around 30 hours at sea, the dinghy was intercepted by the RNLI and those on board transferred to two lifeboats. Two lifeboat personnel tried to secure the empty dinghy. Thomas yelled abuse and knifed the dinghy to deflate it - with a rescuer still on board.

7. However before they could get there, the asylum seekers on board RNLI lifeboats were quickly moved to a Border Force cutter instead, which is now heading east (probably to Dover, and the secure site of Western Jet Foil). Cat-and-mouse at sea as they try to avoid activists both on land and sea.
