This seems absurdly simple, but: Republicans talk *all the time* about how Democrats are bad. Not this or that individual Democrat, but the party, the ideology, the very idea of Democrats. Democrats almost never do this about Republicans. Not in a coordinated, concerted way.

When I watch a Godzilla, superhero, or Transformers film, I’m always thinking about the financial, logistical, and economic hurdles of the destruction. Who pays to rebuild Chicago after it’s been leveled in a Transformers movie?

Then why did you prop up that corrupt sycophant Henry Cuellar in 2020 and 2022, who just got pardoned by Trump while facing charges of bribery?

It shouldn’t be forgotten that a big piece of Mamdani’s campaign was simply “cities are cool and lots of people enjoy living in them” which in and of itself dismantles alot of rightwing talking points

Glad the bill passed, but am pissed at the way my Assemblymember voted. Called and emailed his office frequently, yet votes like this. Not surprised considering he has incredibly strong ties to the oil industry, and more transit and dense means less money towards gas, which means less oil profits.

Something I've changed my mind about is how much of the war on inflation that was central to the birth of neoliberalism was an actual product of mass opinion and not just elite desire for austerity and the disciplining of labor.

Fun fact: nearly all the Chinese electric cars use LFP batteries, which are super cheap, long lasting, use no toxic cobalt, and have a bit reduced capacity LFP batteries were developed in the US at UT Austin But they are only made in China - every one in the US currently is imported

In 1992, Bill Clinton won the presidential election promising voters that he’d be a “different kind of Democrat”. In 2025, the voters took that to heart and voted for a different kind of Democrat, Zohran Mamdani, instead of Andrew Cuomo who Clinton himself had endorsed.

The fact that every protest has been largely peaceful except LA and there’s 50 angles of the cops starting the violence really drives home how manufactured the California crisis is But what happened in Minnesota is manufactured in another sense but way more real and terrifying

Most ironic and interesting to me is how some GOP senators repping suburban car-centric areas like Grove (repping my district) and Ochoa Bogh voted yes on this bill, while some Dem senators like Smallwood Cuevas and Durazo who rep urban areas in the center of major transit booms refused to vote yes.

Nothing has prepared you to live under Trump 2 as much as growing up in 1980s/90s Latin America. It was exactly like that! The sudden announcements changing everything, the overwhelming uncertainty, the sheer vertigo and whiplash. Plus, the sense that democracy is fragile and could collapse...

True, but I’d say it’s probably a side effect of both the rise of Trumpism in the United States, as well as America’s status as a major superpower as well as soft power. I’d bet that if Bernie Sanders were president, Corbyn and Melenchon would already be leading their own countries by now.

Walkable communities would also benefit everybody in terms of health, wellness, and even livelihoods, including the young, the elderly, the disabled, and small business owners. Unfortunately, it seems anything that interferes with corporate profits is always fought against by our compromised gov.

This is my old city journalist brain firing but I believe that the USA way of isolating everybody into unwalkable suburbia, requiring private cars for existence, & removing true public space has had a disastrous effect on the US's sense of community & empathy and we must, but won't, deal with that
