Not all disabled people have family or friends who can take care of them. Charities are woefully ill equipped to provide the level of care many of us need. Being abandoned for being sick is common, and it’s not our fault. Disability is not & has never been a moral failing.

My dad lost his sister to measles when they were young. She spent last days of her life in a darkened closet (as was common back then) She was a healthy child, but if she HAD pre existing conditions, it wouldn’t have made their family ok with her death. No child should die from preventable illness

“Neurographic Garden Kitty”, an illustration I did with colored pencils & sharpies.

Neurographic art is a mindfulness technique which requires no artistic skill or talent to achieve the vagus nerve & neuronal benefits. NA is shown to improve patient outcomes for cancer, PTSD, ASD, long Covid, POTS, & other CNS disorders.

NA method is typically done by first drawing multiple intersecting lines on a page or canvas, then rounding out each angle of intersection where the lines meet. This creates organic rounded shapes akin to pebbles, bubbles, or even flowing water. The shapes can then be colored in, shaded, or embellished with any other type of art methods. Certain rules can be followed for maximum neuronal benefit, but for artistic purposes there are no limits to your own creative process.

For my piece I kept the NA method minimal since I wanted to create a cat in a garden setting, with flowers, not an abstract image. The “bubbles” are mostly seen at the sides of the cat’s body where red and pinkish daisies overlap its body, with their green stems and leaves to the sides. The cat is calico with green eyes, in a portrait style with just face and shoulders showing. A red heart between the cat’s ears sits like a crown on its head. The cat is a cream color with brown and gold calico markings, including one ear. A bumblebee buzzes to the upper right of the page. Everything is outlined heavily in black sharpie and outlined again in a pale blue, against a light blue and pale lavender background. The style is cartoony and whimsical. I added ear tufts, whiskers, and some line work to the flowers and foliage but it’s a simple illustrated graphic. The cat’s expression is focused straight on, enigmatic but with a suggestion of a smile.

"My Cats Love Each Other And My Cats Love Me"

The photo I used to paint my 2 cats for Valentine's Day, for reference. I don't think the painting I did of them looks like them exactly, it's more of a cartoon caricature. I think I got their personalities to come through.

The pic is of Jane The Magnificent spooning Tarzan the Maine Coon, on a plush dark brown bedspread. Both cats are looking to camera, with the flash illuminating their retinas to a gold sheen.

Both cats are grey and chonky but Jane is a silver grey tortoiseshell tabby with emerald green eyes, and Tarzan is a massive grey and white tuxedo superfloof with golden eyes, a white blaze, ruff, belly, and socks, and faint tabby stripes in his long fur. Tarzan is roughly twice Jane's size.

The two have been strongly bonded for nearly 15 years now.
