Bike parking is one of those quiet issues in Toronto that frustrates cyclists. Plazas & suburban stores rarely have racks, there’s no incentive to install them & it’s not easy for renters to own a bike. We can quietly accept this, but we’re doing something about it. This is BPAT.

Our Level of Traffic Stress map currently shows Davisville Ave between Yonge and Mount Pleasant as a "3: Somewhat Hazardous", primarily due to the number of lanes. The improvements proposed would make Davisville feel safer for many more pedestrians and cyclists.

If you are attending the public drop-in for the Davisville Ave improvements, there are several bike rings available around the Davisville & Mount Pleasant intersection. (There may also be some parking right by the school, though it has not yet been added to OpenStreetMap).

The City is running a cargo bike corral pilot program (secure.toronto.ca/council/agenda-it…). Please email requests for potential cargo bike parking corral locations to bikelocker@toronto.ca by April 2. Requested locations will be considered for installation in 2026.

Neither of these are currently on our map, but if you are able to reply with your own photo or email one to bikespaceto@gmail.com, we will be happy to add them! (We are not able to add bike racks to our map based on Google Street View imagery due to licensing restrictions).

For anyone planning to bike to the public drop-in event for the Thistletown Streets Plan on March 23: we were not able to find any bike parking at the Thistletown Community Centre, but there is bike parking available at the Shoppers Drug Mart across the road and Saint-Noël-Chabanel Catholic school

Researchers would say that these routes would only feel safe for a small number of cyclists who are "enthused and confident", but the improvements should make these routes more suitable for cyclists of all ages and abilities, including children.

All of the roads planned for improvement currently score a "3" on the Level of Traffic Stress scale (1 = best, 4 = worst), meaning that cyclists using them are currently exposed to vehicle traffic that may be moderate-to-high speed and may have multiple lanes in places. bikespace.ca/lts-map

Council voted for more cargo bike racks. Seven months later, the city has only built one.
A Toronto bike shop owner said the lack of cargo bike parking is a ‘constant obstacle’ to more people purchasing the family-friendly rigs

Mine is that I used to not really see bike parking as a big deal and now I see secure bike parking (including anti-theft enforcement/deterrence) at home, work, commercial spaces, etc as crucial. The easiest people to get to bike are the ones already doing it — but many stop if their bike is stolen.

Leaving a bike on the sidewalk overnight or while at work often results in a missing tire or gearset, but for most of us, it’s only a matter of time until the entire frame disappears.
