We tend to generalize "the cyclist." But gender, age, race, income- they all determine how safe and normal you feel on a street. The same power structures shape mobility as everything else in urban life Dive deeper in our latest article by Ingrid Sant open.substack.com/pub/urbancyc...

Two panel comic. Panel 1: two Tiktaaliks (an extinct, 375-million-year-old fish that was the evolutionary link between fish and the first four-legged land animals) sit at the floor of a shallow sea bed. One of them angrily says to the other, “hey! You still owe me 20 bucks!” Panel 2: the other Tiktaalik, to avoid paying $20, emerges from the water and steps onto land for the first time in history. The first tiktaalik is absolutely stupefied.

Regulations are what keeps ordinary Americans healthy and, often, alive. It took spoiled meat and rodent droppings out of our food. It took harmful lead out of our gasoline and paint. It took poison out of our water. Deregulation only achieves one goal: making rich corporations richer.

We used to drive our VW diesel powered van everywhere, room for the ebikes in the back. This year we plan on swapping the van for an ev and putting the folding ebikes on the back seat. It's the last step in switching off fossil fuels. All electricity we use is self generated and stored now.
2 thumbs up for the new ebikes.

POWER INDUSTRY GREEN LIGHT FOR GREENHOUSE CUTS

Environment Minister Robert Hill says Australia’s greenhouse gas emissions will be dramatically reduced when new efficiency standards are introduced for power stations from July 1st.

Senator Hill said it’s expected the new standards for fossil fuel generators will lead to a cut of about four million tonnes of carbon emissions each year.

“This achievement, the equivalent of taking over one million cars permanently off the road, would not have been possible without the co-operation of industry,” Senator Hill said.
