very nice email from a patron today after she requested that we order the Big Words biographies series and then realized we already have some 🥰

kind message from a patron including "the way I gasped when I saw you had some of those "big words" books!" And "I am just so grateful"

Harry Potter was a millionaire wizard who became a policeman. Boring. The Baudelaire orphans lose a fortune, are abandoned and betrayed by every adult in their lives, and only survive by being bookish and inventive. Legendary behavior. Iconic.

I have always loved public libraries, but having young children has exponentially increased my gratitude and sense of indebtedness to them. Our local library is such a huge part of our lives. The books, the programming, the very intentionally curated kids’ section. It’s all such a gift.

Despite reading 90 books this year, I only read 14 published in 2024! That made choosing my top ten much easier!! Coming in at number 10 is WHAT DOES IT FEEL LIKE, the short autobiographical novella from Sophie Kinsella, who I absolutely adore 💙 #LibFaves24

It's almost time! Starting 12/9 library folk will share the 10 books (pubbed in 2024) they enjoyed most this year & want others to know about. Each day share a title (in ALL CAPS please) & author. Monitors will compile & we'll all watch our TBR lists grow at least 3 sizes. Just use #LivFaves24 📚👀

I don't know who needs to hear this, but you don't need to justify your reading preferences and choices to anyone. Audiobooks count as reading. Also, you don't have to finish books you don't enjoy. Don't read to impress, read for yourself. Life's too short, love yourself, ok? Signed, a librarian.
