One Devon farmer, called Derek, is committed to rewilding his land. His neighbour, also a Derek, tends cattle and crops. What happened when a film-maker decided to follow the bickering pair?

A suggested statement for Andy Burnham.
‘The British public decided in the 1930s that they would not tolerate black-shirted militias marching through their streets. They would cherish robust political argument; they would not accept thuggery and intimidation. When Oswald Mosley led his Blackshirts to Cable Street, local people turned them back. A new law – introduced by a Liberal, backed by Labour and carried by a Conservative majority – banned private militias, political uniforms and ‘the use or display of physical force in promoting any political object’. The British people are as determined today as in the 1930s that they will not accept the methods of Mussolini and the Munich Beer Hall. This government will uphold the law and defend the traditions of British democracy’.

Having now dealt with the deaths of two parents within two months, let me just say that the kindest thing you can do for your loved ones, at every stage of life, is assume that some of them will outlive you, and make that as easy as possible for them, logistically. it sucks and it's morbid, but.

A friend found this clipping in some old files. Haven't seen this before. Mind blown.
Color political cartoon by Danny Hellman from the New York Press dated October 6-12, 1999. In it, Donald Trump and his then wife Marla Maples being shown a model of the White House with many added stories and a shiny gold T on the top, with Taj Mahal towers on the side and flags flying with a T. It is labeled "Proposed White House Renovation." A ghoulish Philip Johnson says, "Granted, It's in violation of several of Washington D.C.'s landmark and zoning codes. But of course as president of the United States..." Trump, licking his lips, says, "It's tremendous, Philip, when do I move in?" The caption beneath is Spectacularly unqualified egomaniac Donald Trump contemplates a White House run"

My young adults seem to see a TV licence in the same way as a Netflix/Prime/Apple TV subscription: they will be signed up for one or two services at any given time, then swap around if there is a particular series they want to catch up on. I don't think they ever watch live TV (nor do I, tbh).

I read that the man behind the bin is an Oxford classics grad, so if he does get elected he will fit in just fine at Westminster. Maybe he should form a centrist dad party called 'Recycle' (goes nicely with Reform and Restore)? A natural home for recycled politicians defecting from other parties.

Real names is one of the worst of all ideas. I get asked ‘why do you use your real name’ as though it’s a ‘gotcha’. I’m a man. Rich, middle-class, middle-aged, without an abusive ex or an oppressive family. My name isn’t ethnic or religious. I don’t have bullies or enemies. Others do. Think.

The idea of not wanting to get involved with someone with incompatible political views is hardly new. The slogan "never kissed a Tory" has been around for years. And a teenage boyfriend of mine wrote a very pompous letter dumping me for being a "socialist, feminist vegetarian" back in the 1980s...
