One of the nation’s most distinctive 9/11 memorial events takes place every five years in Georgia. At Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park, almost 3,000 flags are placed in the front field – one for every victim of 9/11.

I saw a meme today that said that books are proof that strangers can meet across centuries and still understand each other. That really resonated.

We were just talking about Wings last night! We saw it last year at a local theater that regularly shows silent films with a theatre organ accompanist. This is a great film! It’s long, but the pacing is very good.

Just got back from a trip to Alaska, where I purchased possibly my favorite souvenir of all time: the Bottercelli
Art print of a parody of Botticelli's The Birth Of Venus, but the people are otters. Otter Venus stands in a shell, covering herself with paws and a strand of kelp. Otter Zephyrus and Aura with wings and cloaks float at her side.

The Lucin Cutoff, shown here, was built by the Southern Pacific Railroad from 1902 to 1904. By building tracks over the Great Salt Lake in Utah, the railroad was able to save over forty miles of track.

At the Atlanta Studies Symposium this week, one of the keynote speakers was Dr Brian Goldstone, whose 2025 book on the working homeless population in Atlanta just received the Pulitzer Prize for general non-fiction last week. His lecture was eye-opening, and I am eager to read his book. 1/2

I’ve been keeping an eye on a company that makes lightweight scarves with prints inspired by books, and today I found one that I had to order. The print is based on an 1899 edition of Elbert Hubbard’s Little Journeys, printed by his Roycroft Press.1/2
Picture of a scarf with an elaborate vine and flower design, from the Headings.com websiteThe same scarf, with a copy of one volume of the 1899 edition of Little Journeys. This volume is Little Journeys to the Homes of English Authors, and it’s open to the title page where this border appears.
