California recently passed, and Colorado and NY recently introduced, age verification legislation targeting OS providers that is so imprecisely written that it's unclear how to comply. If you live in one of those states, contact your state senator and rep asking them to oppose this legislation.

'Cello' comes from 'violoncello'. This Italian word has a funny literal meaning: "little big viola". That's because it's a double derivative of 'viola': viola > violone (big viola) > violoncello (little big viola). The part '-cello' is only a suffix. Here's more about it, 'violin', and 'fiddle':

I’ve been laughing about this all morning
ChatGPT:

Q:

A father and son are in a car crash. Sadly, the son is killed. The father is rushed to the hospital and as he is laid down on the emergency room table, the doctor looks down and exclaims, "I can't operate on this man, he's my father!" How is this possible?

A:

This is a classic riddle that highlights unconscious gender assumptions.

The answer is: [bolded] The doctor is the man's other father. [/bolded]

This suggests that the son had two fathers, making the doctor his other dad.

58. Pagans by James Alistair Henry. Alt-history crime? I LOVED IT! The Normans never conquered England, Africa is the leading superpower, Britain is divided up btween Celts, Saxons, and Norse. Very gritty crime story (defund these cops omfg) but the attention to detail for the worldbuilding!!!
Book cover for Pagans by James Alistair Henry. Two tiny human figures stand in the midst of a blank space; the blank space makes a cityscape at the top, against a black background. A red droplet filled with Celtic-esque swirls falls from a long spire pointing down at the two figures.

This fragment of proverbs in both Sumerian and Akkadian — languages of ancient Mesopotamia — preserves an early reference to period care. “Everything was fine, and then she brought in a sanitary napkin.” In Sumerian, the pad is a garment called a nig-dara, and in Akkadian, it’s a ulāpu “rag”.
