Also epigenetic signals are present which predict the risk of preeclampsia, intra-uterine growth retardation, gestational diabetes and preterm birth, as well as pregnancy-related immune-mediated disease. Finally, also viral infections can be gleaned from these analyses.

🚨review paper alert: non-invasive prenatal screening (NIPS) traditionally predicts common trisomies. NIPS data however also contains genetic signal to predict additional complications: malignancies, rare autosomal trisomies confined to the placenta, monogenic disorders and common genetic risks.
